The Yin Yang Femina Style Diva Pune, 2013 turned out to be a show that left the
audiences wanting more. The event was aimed at unveiling young and aspiring
fashionistas, and to assist them to come into their own—stylishly. We were
looking for that chic, well-dressed woman who knows the difference between
being a trendsetter and a trend follower. Like the first edition, the call for
entries received an overwhelming response. Finally, 16 stylish girls were
chosen. These fashion-forward contestants were mentored by supermodel-turned ace
choreographer, Achla Sachdev, who taught the finalists to hold their own on the
ramp with poise and confidence. The 16 contenders were also groomed in
articulation by Eva Pavithran, associate editor, Femina.
The first round put the contestants’ creativity to test. They had to
style outfits from their own wardrobe. From a skirt made out of a lungi to a gown designed by them, the
girls impressed not only the judges but also the invitees who were cheering for
them throughout. For round two, the girls walked the ramp with clothes designed
especially for them by Pune-based designer Seema Singh. Round three saw the
contestants flaunt their accessorising skills to match the gorgeous resort wear
designed by Pria Kataria Puri. The finalists wore beautiful gowns designed by
Babita Malkani for the last round, and the judges asked them fun style-related
questions.
The evening saw amazing
performances by Illuminati dance troupe. Stand-up comedian Rohan Joshi had
everyone in splits and Usha Uthup brought the house down with her amazing vocal
skills. Our esteemed panellists consisted of actor Jaqueline Fernandes,
director Abhishek Kapoor, actor Yami Gautam, Tanya Chaitanya, editor, Femina,
Dr Madhu Chopra of Studio Aesthetique Jitesh Pillaai, editor Filmfare,
Hrishikesh CEO & Director Yin Yang a project by Pashankar group and Vishal Singh
GM Hyatt Pune Kalyani Nagar.
Tanya Chaitanya, editor, Femina
says, “Femina Style Diva provides a great platform for young women who love
playing dress up and have an innate sense of style. They may not all end up in
the fashion industry, as we had an interesting mix of contestants this
year—from physiotherapists and singers to dance choreographers and investment
bankers. Yet, they were all given an incredible opportunity to showcase their
own personal style. We at Femina believe we’re making the world a
stylish place.”
