Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan rules the box office with a Rs. 42 crore worldwide gross in the opening weekend

Mumbai, 26th May, 2014: Eros International Media Ltd (Eros International), a leading global company in the Indian film entertainment industry, has announced a blockbuster opening weekend of the futuristic fantasy event of the year ‘Kochadaiiyaan - The Legend, at the box office with a massive Rs. 42 crore gross worldwide.

Eros International released the film in 2D and 3D on May 23rd 2014, in 6 languages in over 3,000 screens worldwide. Tamil Nadu distribution was undertaken directly by Eros International.

Directed by Soundarya Rajnikanth Ashwin, the Photorealistic Performance Capture technology film has set a new milestone in the history of Indian cinema and set the box office ringing with a bumper opening weekend and grossed Rs. 30 crore in India and Rs. 12 crore overseas.  Markets with Rajni stronghold like UAE, Malaysia and Singapore have shown superlative performance. With pre-sales from satellite rights in multiple languages, audio and music rights exploitation, brand tie ups and other income, the film is well on its way to cross Rs 100 in revenue just after the opening weekend.

Kochadaiiyaan is an epic dramatization of good versus evil starring South Indian megastar Rajinikanth in a double role in a larger than life depiction. Also starring in the grand production is  leading lady  Deepika Padukone together with South India’s leading stars R. Sharath kumar, Nazar, Aadi, Shobana and Rukmini. Providing the musical score to this magnum opus is Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman.

Sajid Nadiadwala's Heropanti takes a weekend of 21.33 crores.

The launchpad, Heropanti starring Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon has surely become the biggest solo launch ever with the kind of numbers it has achieved.

The film made a massive opening of 6.63 crores on Friday and 6.42 crores on Saturday.

Heropanti saw close to a 30% growth on Sunday collecting 8.28 crores.

In just three days, the film has collected 21.33 crores, which is a solid and highest number for a film starring newcomers.

With the kind of action, dance, foot tapping music and an absolutely stunning marketing campaign, the film had a constant buzz around it.

An American Comedy Film, Chef is directed, written by and starring Jon Favreau as Chef Carl Casper, a Miami born workaholic who manages the kitchen of a restaurant in Los Angeles. The film that also has a star studded star-cast comprising of Sofia Vergara, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson explores the world of delectable food; following your heart and the impact of social media in real life.

The film that opened at The Tribeca Film Festival has garnered immense acclaim over the months making it one of the most awaited releases of the year. Jon Favreau known for directing the mega budget super-hero franchise Iron Man goes back to his indie roots with this heart-warming comedy that revolves around a chef who loses his restaurant job and starts up a food truck in an effort to reclaim his creative promise, while piecing back together his estranged family.

For a small budget film, Chef boasts of a million dollar star-cast interestingly reuniting the team of Iron Man with Robert Downey Jr & Scarlet Johansson also roped in for integral roles.
