Designers meet to interpret India’s heritage through a fashion showcase

Mumbai, April 18^th, 2014- The Big Door known for its unique collection of furniture and jewellery inspired by Indian art and craftsmanship is hosting a week long fashion extravaganza- The Grand Trunk show. To mark the beginning of the trunk show, The Big Door invited select guests yesterday. Celebrities like Madhur Bhandarkar, Elli Avram, designer Vaishali S, Rajesh Puri and the likes graced the occasion. The trunk show presented an exclusive line by designer duo Rohit and Abhishek, Couture by Takshila, Imperial Wrist wear by Jaipur Watch Company and an exquisite collection of Beachwear inspired by Royal Indian prints by The Big Door all under one roof. Vivek Gupta, Owner, The Big Door took the guests around to see the collection and the guests later enjoyed themselves  on  the beautiful terrace over a glass of champagne.

Rohit and Abhishek from the land of Jaipur showcased their new designer line: Rustic Luxury. An awe inspiring collection of bandhgalas, Fusion Nehru Jackets in new avatar, Hunting Safaris serving as Cool Jackets, Slim Fit Breeches and Jodhpuris with Tie and Dye Linen Shirts make the collection very fashionable yet wearable for the Indian men. In shades summery and bright, the collection exudes luxury that is rustic yet royal. The in borne instinct to aesthetically blend colors, with an eye for meticulous detail, along with flawless clean cuts, makes the collection matchless.

Also making a grand appearance at the trunk show was ‘Takshila’ known for its fine and delicate Hand Embroidery. An assortment of hand- picked designs on saris, kurtis with crushed palazzos, suits with straight pants, churidar sarees, Takshila presented a modern day interpretation of what is classic and timeless. Taking inspiration from  the ancient and magnificent Rajput and Mughal era, get mesmerized by the culmination of gota, zardozi and dori work  as they come alive on Takshila’s saris, lehangas, jackets and kurtis. In vibrant hues like parrot green, fuchsia, purple and lime yellow, Takshila’s designs are sure to entice your senses.  

As fashion takes centre stage, The Grand Trunk show at The Big Door presented accessories as well to complete the look. With careful deliberation and personally handpicking coins, Gaurav Mehta from Jaipur Watch Company has come up with a unique concept of “Coin Watches”. Coins used as dials formed his core collection. The collection comprises of watches made in coins from the 1940's featuring The King George VI (1939-1945) Silver Coins etc. Gaurav Mehta will be presenting his line – Imperial Wrist Wear at The Big Door to give Mumbaites a sneak peek into his watch collection that takes us back to history. Each wrist watch has a story to tell and his collection has pieces that are extraordinaire and enduring.

That’s not all. The final icing on the cake was an exclusive beachwear collection introduced by The Big Door. Designed by Sunita Gupta, the beach wear line- The Bespoke beachwear embraces clean cut silhouettes comprising of bikinis, maillots, monokinis, cover ups and co ordinates with prints in exotic flowers, Indian Mughal illustrations, Persian motifs and Rajasthani Art.

After Salman Khan, Sonam Kapoor To Lend Support To Rouble Nagi.

Sonam Kapoor who has always worn her heart on her sleeve and voiced her support to various campaigns ,be it encouraging her fans to donate to the Ogaan Cancer Foundation for her birthday or campaigning for the cause of breast cancer, this time around ,has lent her full hearted support to the Rouble Nagi Art Foundation -one that runs  art camps for underprivileged kids across the country.

Sonam will travel to Delhi in the second half of April to encourage the children of the foundation and interact with them as they exhibit their art work.

The Rouble Nagi Art Foundation was earlier supported by Salman Khan , an actor Sonam deeply admires for his philanthropic work.

Says a source, "The RNAF has a steady list of supporters including Salman and Sohail Khan , Sonam is the newest star face to be associated with the foundation given the warm equation she shares with the Khan family.She is currently working on Arbaaz Khan production's Dolly Ki Dholi and despite being busy with her professional commitments be it her films or brands ,Sonam was extremely keen on attending the exhibition to meet with the children there and lend her support to bring attention to a cause that helps underprivileged kids try their hand at creative artworks."

Lavasa, April 19, 2014: Lavasa, India’s planned hill city today announced the tie up with well known martial arts trainer, Chitah Yajnesh Shetty to launch ‘Chitah JKD Lavasa- Advance Module Academy’. The Martial Arts Academy has been launched in keeping with its endeavor to promote Lavasa as destination for sports. Lavasa is already working with leading experts for academies catering to sports like hockey, tennis, rowing, golf and badminton.     

Commenting on the launch of the academy Nathan Andrews, President, Lavasa Corporation Limited said, ‘We are delighted to be associated with Chitah Yajnesh Shetty and to welcome the Chitah JKD Advance Module Academy to Lavasa. We believe that this will provide invaluable martial art training to many aspiring learners, while complementing the sport academies already under development within Lavasa, which today include the Sir Steve Redgrave Rowing Academy and a hockey academy with Hockey Australia. 

To mark the start of the ‘Chitah JKD Lavasa- Advance Module Academy’, a 3 day India Martial Arts Fest was organized at Lavasa from 18th to 20th April 2014. Leading exponents of various martial arts forms belonging to 6 countries and 14 Indian states showcased their expertise and shared their skills with over 100 enthusiasts in the age group of 7 to 61 years.

The experts who trained students in various martial art forms including ancient art forms like WUSHU and SHAOLIN sessions were:

·         Sifu Cosmo Zimik ((Director of  Empty Hand Warrior – Juveniles Mentor Program, USA and Coach For Olympic Games, renowned trainer of Law Enforcement agencies, Military personnel etc)

·         Daniel Chris Docto- Myua Thai specialist from Thailand

·         Sameer Ali Khan- mixed martial art master from Afghanistan

·         Saru Veerji- Shaolin Kung fu scholar from Nepal

To promote the sport among enthusiasts an exhibition of martial art forms and its rich history was organized in addition to the seminars and workshops by leading experts. The festival aptly offered a platform to Martial art practitioners for talent showcasing. The workshops and seminars held for the beginners and enthusiasts were engaging and action oriented. Participants were given certificates on successful completion of workshops and seminars.

Abhishek Bach chan, who is currently shooting for Umesh Shukla’s ‘All Is Well’, has decided to cut short on travelling time by using a ferry from Versova to Madh Island, where the film is being shot. Abhishek and Rishi Kapoor decided to use the ferry so as to avoid traffic snarls and reach the sets on time.Says a source, "While Abhishek could travel to the sets in his luxury automobile he has decided to use the ferry instead minus any starry airs as its time-saving and convenient."

The webbed superhero costume visits the iconic India Gate!!!

The capital city of India had a special treat in store in them as the famed superhero Spider-Man's original Marvel costume flew in all the way from Hollywood, USA and came to Delhi first to promote The Amazing Spider-Man 2!

Adding to the Spidey blitzkrieg in the city was actor Vivek Oberoi who is none other than the Hindi voice of Max Dillon aka super villain Electro in this year’s biggest Hollywood blockbuster THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 which releases on May 1^st and will be seen in English, Hindi, Tamil and telugu. In the original English version, Electro is played by Oscar winning actor Jamie Foxx.

The striking superhero and ace villain duo first went to the iconic India Gate in Delhi and created quite a surprising moment on the spot!!

In Mumbai, affable Bollywood buff and wanna-be-actor Sunny, who works as an assistant director, fantasizes on becoming a heart-throb star. However, at every audition he is summarily thrown out. Undeterred, he goes with an American crew to remote areas in Rajasthan to work on a documentary. One day an Islamic terrorist group kidnaps him for the American crew-member. Sunny finds himself on enemy border amidst guns and pathani-clad guards, who decide to keep him hostage until they locate their original target.  The house In which he is confined belongs to a Pakistani, whose trade stems from pirated Hindi films, which he brings back every time he crosses the border. Soon, the two factions realize that they share a human and cultural bond. The film shows how cinema can be the universal panacea for co-existence.

Says director Braj Bhushan, “The film is an interesting suspense thriller and a riveting love story, which will keep you on the edge of the seat and the USP of the film is that it has been targeted at the youth who will love the intimate lip locks indulged in by both Sara Khan and her real life boy friend Paras Chhabra in the film. The seventeen kissing scenes by Mallika Sherawat in the film Khwaaish will seem very pale in front of the kissing scenes of Sara and Paras in the film becau se not only did the sc ript demand that Sara shed her inhibitions and kiss her boy friend in the film but also both really enjoyed doing the intimate scenes since they are in love in real life with each other

Filmistaan

In Mumbai, affable Bollywood buff and wanna-be-actor Sunny, who works as an assistant director, fantasizes on becoming a heart-throb star. However, at every audition he is summarily thrown out. Undeterred, he goes with an American crew to remote areas in Rajasthan to work on a documentary. One day an Islamic terrorist group kidnaps him for the American crew-member. Sunny finds himself on enemy border amidst guns and pathani-clad guards, who decide to keep him hostage until they locate their original target.  The house In which he is confined belongs to a Pakistani, whose trade stems from pirated Hindi films, which he brings back every time he crosses the border. Soon, the two factions realize that they share a human and cultural bond. The film shows how cinema can be the universal panacea for co-existence.

It’s a wrap for the Bombay Velvet team.The team of Bombay Velvet came together for the celebration of their last day of shoot. The party wasThe film has been largely shot at Sri Lanka, and the last schedule was shot in Mumbai.  Present at the party were Vijay Singh, Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Balh, Karan Johar, Ranbir Kapoor, Vikram Aditya MotwaneThe team had worn a special shirt and the cake to had 28th November imprinted on it which highlights the release date of the film.The film will cast Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.
