The Grand Trunk Show
Designers meet to interpret India’s heritage through a fashion showcase
Mumbai, April 18th, 2014- The Big Door known for its
unique collection of furniture and jewellery inspired by Indian art and
craftsmanship is hosting a week long fashion extravaganza- The Grand Trunk
show. To mark the beginning of the trunk show, The Big Door invited select
guests yesterday. Celebrities like Madhur
Bhandarkar, Elli Avram, designer Vaishali S, Rajesh Puri and the likes
graced the occasion. The trunk show presented an exclusive line by designer duo
Rohit and Abhishek, Couture by Takshila, Imperial Wrist wear by Jaipur Watch
Company and an exquisite collection of Beachwear inspired by Royal Indian
prints by The Big Door all under one roof. Vivek Gupta, Owner, The Big
Door took the guests around to see the collection and the guests later enjoyed
themselves on the beautiful terrace over a glass of
champagne.
Rohit and Abhishek from the land
of Jaipur showcased their new designer line: Rustic Luxury. An awe inspiring
collection of bandhgalas, Fusion Nehru Jackets in new avatar, Hunting Safaris
serving as Cool Jackets, Slim Fit Breeches and Jodhpuris with Tie and Dye Linen
Shirts make the collection very fashionable yet wearable for the Indian men. In
shades summery and bright, the collection exudes luxury that is rustic yet
royal. The in borne instinct to aesthetically blend colors, with an eye for
meticulous detail, along with flawless clean cuts, makes the collection
matchless.
Also making a grand appearance at
the trunk show was ‘Takshila’ known for its fine and delicate Hand Embroidery.
An assortment of hand- picked designs on saris, kurtis with crushed palazzos,
suits with straight pants, churidar sarees, Takshila presented a modern day
interpretation of what is classic and timeless. Taking inspiration from the ancient and magnificent Rajput and Mughal
era, get mesmerized by the culmination of gota, zardozi and dori work as they come alive on Takshila’s saris, lehangas,
jackets and kurtis. In vibrant hues like parrot green, fuchsia, purple and lime
yellow, Takshila’s designs are sure to entice your senses.
As fashion takes centre stage,
The Grand Trunk show at The Big Door presented accessories as well to complete
the look. With careful deliberation and personally handpicking coins, Gaurav Mehta
from Jaipur Watch Company has come up with a unique concept of “Coin Watches”.
Coins used as dials formed his core collection. The collection comprises of
watches made in coins from the 1940's featuring The King George VI (1939-1945)
Silver Coins etc. Gaurav Mehta will be presenting his line – Imperial Wrist Wear at The Big Door to
give Mumbaites a sneak peek into his watch collection that takes us back to
history. Each wrist watch has a story to tell and his collection has pieces
that are extraordinaire and enduring.
That’s not all. The final icing
on the cake was an exclusive beachwear collection introduced by The Big Door.
Designed by Sunita Gupta, the beach wear line- The Bespoke beachwear embraces clean cut silhouettes comprising of
bikinis, maillots, monokinis, cover ups and co ordinates with
prints in exotic flowers, Indian Mughal illustrations, Persian motifs
and Rajasthani Art.
