U.S. and Indian Filmmakers Lead Discussion on Documentary Filmmaking

Mumbai, January, 2014:Women in Film & Television (India) (WIFT), in association with U.S. Consulate General Mumbai, will conduct a panel discussion on ‘The Art of Capturing Reality- Documentary’.  Participating will be Debra Zimmerman, a U.S. film expert and Executive Director of the non-profit group Women Make Movies; PatrickShen, a multiple award-winning U.S. filmmaker; filmmaker Shivendra Singh (Celluloid Man); and Surabhi Sharma (Bidesia in Bambai).  The discussion takes placeon 17th January, 2014,from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm at St. Andrew’s College.

Anjali Monteiro (Professor and Dean, School of Media and Cultural Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences) will moderate.

Debra Zimmerman has moderated panels and taught master classes on documentary films at the Sundance Film Festival, MIPDOC, Reel Screen, and international film festivals throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America. Patrick Shen’s feature length debut, Flight from Death, received seven “Best Documentary” awards at film festivals across the U.S. and has screened all over the world. Filmmaker Shivendra Singh has been selected for this year's Bimal Roy Memorial Emerging Talent Award for his widely appreciated documentary Celluloid Man.

For all you documentary filmmakers who have a story to tell,this isthe opportunity to interact directly with well-known documentary film experts and learn about the making, marketing, and distribution of documentary films.

Mark Wahlberg in an American War Film – Lone Survivor

The film is based on a true story of the United States Navy SEALs and is being released in India by PVR Pictures on the 7^th of February

‘Lone Survivor’ is an upcoming War Film starring the multi-talented Mark Wahlberg as Marcus Luttrell, an American Navy SEAL who was the Lone Survivor of the failed mission Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan. Based on the book of the same name, written by the real Marcus Lutrell himself the film is an adaptation of the True Acts of Courage that transpired at Parvat Hindu Kush.

Four members of SEAL Team 10 were tasked with the mission to gather intel, capture or kill notorious Taliban leader Ahmad Shahd under the command of Capt. Lutrell along with Michael P. Murphy played by Taylor Kitsch; Danny Dietz played by Emile Hirsch and Matthew Axelson played by Ben Foster. The film also stars Eric Bana and Yousuf Azami.

Directed by Peter Berg (of ‘Hancock’ fame); Lone Survivor accounts the heroism, the struggle, the courage and the brotherhood shown by these Men while fighting for their country as they are ambushed by an entire army of Afghans. The story, visuals and battle sequences in the film have received positive reviews as the film saw a limited release on the 27^th of December in the US and is all set for Release in India on the 7^th of February, 2014.
