Raghavendra Rathore at the Aamby Valley India Bridal Week (AVIBFW) 2013

Raghavendra Rathore at the Aamby Valley India Bridal Week (AVIBFW) 2013
The exuberance & revelry of the 1920’s make a comeback on the ramp

New Delhi: 25TH JULY, 2013:  Day 3 of the fourth edition of Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week in association with AZVA at the Hotel Grand, New Delhi will present a collection from the atelier of Raghavendra Rathore that celebrates the magnificence of Indian royalty and heritage at its opulent best. The collection channels the spirit of the glory days of the Raj and is reflective of absolute refinement and stylish dressing. It draws influence from traditional silhouettes from across Asia and puts the focus back on redefining structure and fit, and adds eloquence to the idea of decadent dressing. It aims to reinvent the revelry and exuberance of the 1920’s - the era known for unprecedented economic prosperity. A plethora of exquisite embellishments in the regal shades of fuchsia, midnight blue, wine, saffron, gold and silver are thrown in to exude richness. Reminiscent of the finely-crafted garments worn by the Maharajas, these elegant pieces are for those who appreciate intricacy and fine workmanship.
Surface embroideries that are treated to evoke an antique, vintage feel enhance the overall appeal of each immaculately designed ensemble. Bejeweled accessories and Indian fabrics have been used intelligently to exemplify the signature silhouette of the brand – ‘the Bandgala Jacket’ in its varied avatars, some in neutral color tones which are in stark contrast to the conventional, vibrant hues of the East. With just a slight change in accessories or make-up, they can carry you with aplomb from a fashionable lunch with the swish set to the red carpet.

Raghavendra Rathore says "The India Bridal Fashion Week is a unique platform discreetly providing all the needs for an ideal wedding and also giving direction to couture trends for the season. The exclusiveness of the event only enhances the business approach the entire concept has, in both the B2B and online presence. It is a pleasure to be part of the IBW Platform and we look forward to a long term association.”

Ranbir-Shahid bond

 Ranbir-Shahid bond

Ranbir Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor have a lot in common besides their surname. The two young actors like spending time with each other when opportunity knocks. We just chanced upon a photograph, clicked by a unit hand from his phone, outside the sets of Besharam.

Both actors were shooting next door to each other and Sasha walked over to meet Ranbir. The boys then got into an animated discussion on the cars they possess and the ones they love.

When comparing notes, both actors found that they preferred different luxury brands and then came another round of discussions on the virtues and the flaws of their individual vehicles.

New Luxury Redefined at the Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week 2013 – Shantanu & Nikhil

New Luxury Redefined at the Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week 2013 – Shantanu & Nikhil

This designer-duo has always beautifully captured femininity in their creations which makes their collection a cynosure of all eyes. Shantanu and Nikhil with their collection “To Die For” in India Bridal Fashion Week, 2013 have defined the decadent renaissance period in its most contemporary form. Their Collection is an ode to the woman of today, who has always deeply inspired them to capture the Indian culture and hence fusing it with the modern western sensibility of women. Ornamented surface details of the divine gold cutting uniformly across the collection, strongly reflects the controlled fashion mannerisms of the new-age bride. The collection emphasizes on ‘New Luxury’, which would, by contrast, be declared virtuous. Whether it is because of the choice of silhouettes, soft monochromatic tones or simply the incorporation of delicate work on the ensembles, every aspect of feminity like politeness, humbleness and civil sociability has always reflected in their collection. Since, weddings in India have a strong element of emotion and love attached to it, this also forms the quintessential factor of Shantanu and Nikhil’s collection for the India Bridal Fashion Week 2013. This collection focussed on the soft and beautiful bride who always embraces everything feminine and dotes on chic and contemporary fashion.

The show started with soft pristine white ensembles like gowns, lehengas, mermaid dresses, anarkalis in dull gold floral embroidery work especially at the hems and borders. A long fitted dress with intricate gold embroidery and with wispy flowy tulle fabric was a real stunner. Another, one off shoulder gown in tulle and with embroidery in similar fashion was layered with a toga like style on one side. A soft camel colour anarkali with empire waist line was also mind captivating because of its simplicity and softness. Peplum tops over long skirts like lehengas in earthy colours also mesmerised the audiences. There was extensive use of soft flowy fabrics in earthy colours and hence indicating the monochromatic hues for which Shantanu and Nikhil are always known to incorporate in their collection. Other star attractions of the collection were the peplum jackets with bundcollar and floor sweeping lehengas. The appearance of gold leaf and booti patterns, was used moderately to portray women delicate yet classier. The male models also showcased sherwanis with soft but intricate gold work with similar pattern embroidery at the pocket of the sherwani. Dhoti pants teamed with sherwanis also attracted attention towards the Shantanu and Nikhil’s men collection. Another eye-catching attire which formed part of the men’s collection was a deep red toga –like short kurta teamed with similar colour fitted paijamis.

Soft floor sweeping evening gown in soft blush pink colour had the extensive use of French Chantilly lace in nude colour. Miss Canada, Sehar Biniaz, closed the show for the designer duo. Amongst all the glitterati, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan together with his wife Subha Lakshmi Khan were also spotted at the front row of Shantanu and Nikhil’s show.

Commenting on their association with the AVIBFW, Shantanu & Nikhil say, “Since we are known for our contemporary couture lines for the modern Indian bride, Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week automatically becomes an appropriate platform to showcase our Fall Winter 2013 collection”.

JJ VALAYA for Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week 2013

JJ VALAYA

for Aamby Valley India

Bridal Fashion Week 2013

The opening of Indian Bridal Week, 2013 Delhi Edition was by the renowned couturier whose name is synonymous with Opulence, royalty, and rich cultural heritage of India, especially, when it comes to Haute couture. JJ Valaya marked the beginning of this extravagant bridal week with his grand show. The collection-‘The Maharaja of Madrid’ is about a factitious voyage of a Monarch who was fascinated by the Spanish art, customs and forms. JJ Valaya’s show was presented by the AMR group. The whole set designed by Schenographer Sumant Jayakrishnan was extravagant and grand in every aspect. It was a visual treat for the audience who were mesmerized by the whole ambiance of this visual spectacle. Big white royal umbrellas were set, which depicted the scene of some king’s court, with models sitting on the thrones wearing white ensembles and chunky Indian jewellery, like king and queens of Mughal Era. The quintessentially royal and opulent element which was prevalent during the whole show has always been an integral part of Valaya’s shows.

The show began with the music of birds chirping in the background, and with a male model that was playing a traditional trumpet like instrument on the ship which was right in the middle of this opulent set. The dancers rowed in white sarees gave a beautiful Kathak dance performance, together in synchronization with another dancer, who in a red evening gown, did a Spanish foot tapping dance. The specially crafted soundtrack for this particular performance was by Gaurav Raina of Medieval Pundit, and it was indicative of the fusion of Indian and Spanish cultures, forming the essence of Vallaya’s Collection for this show. The collection is divided into 5 sub-inspirations and is an amalgamation of Spanish and Indian elements. He not only incorporated the spirit of history into his avant-garde creations with finesse but also made sure that the richness of his inspiration stays intact.

The first section of the show presented collection inspired by the laces found in Spanish fans and headgears. It also displayed grandeur of Indian Jewels juxtaposed with beautiful ensembles like sarees, long-collard coats over sarees in ivory. Even men collection showcased a very intricately light embroidered sherwani and also a long anarkali like attire teamed with hanging tassles.

The second part of the show was truly inspired by the Manton de Manila- huge fringed shawls of Spain. The collection showcased the big floral prints in harmony with Indian Jamawar in paisley pattern. The blue tulle gown, with top part of the ensemble, intricately embroidered in Jacquard pattern was truly eye capturing. Beautiful bolero jackets embroidered in similar fashion was also seen paired with the gown, giving the royal touch, to the whole ensemble. The big floral, jacquard embroidered lehengas inspired by Spanish tradition were really seen beautifully blended with Indian attires.

JJ Valaya’s third part of the collection was inspired by the murals of Mexican artist, Diego Rivera who started his career with a famous Spanish artist Eduardo Chicharro. His frescos combined with the unrivalled beauty of Indian Miniature art formed the collection which was mainly in the hues of reds and blacks. Floor sweeping, long spaghetti strapped dress with a criss-cross back was truly awe-inspiring because of the intricate thread work.  In men’s collection, sherwanis with bundgala were seen which were teamed with black straight fitted pants.

The next section, inspired by the armors of Spain and India, showed wide array of collection in fine metal embroideries, velvets, tulles and Georgettes. A deep maroon, velvet jacket with fine metal embroidery at the front, and in combination with wispy tulle fabric was a real stunner.

The final collection was inspired by the bull fighters of Spain also known as Toreros.  In men’s collection, long ankle length sherwanis in red and heavy gold zardosi work in gold and black captured the attention. Another was the georgette sari in red print with studded gold work and teamed with turban like head gear with a lavish beautiful broach studded in the middle of the turban. To conclude the show, Kabir bedi walked the ramp in royal, long, velvet sherwani with heavy intricate gold work all over, together with thread work at hems and borders. It was was teamed with a turban and kali. The second show stopper of the evening was Kangana Ranaut, who showed up in floor sweeping lehenga in gold work, with the incorporation of paisley patterns.

AMR Group, a diversified business conglomerate with business interest in different industry verticals, feels honored to associate with JJ Valaya – Kapil Aggarwal, MD AMR Group “A name of repute in the fashion domain, one that has won laurels on myriad national and international platforms.
