Sonam Kapoor – The Original !

Love her or hate her, you just can’t help going green with envy when it comes to the looks Sonam Kapoor sports at her various public appearances.

With her impeccable sense of style and rare fashion sensibility, the actress and international fashion icon, never the one to be trapped in a box, has always dared to be different and experimented with versatile looks over the years .

That Sonam Kapoor is a fashion icon who hits it out of the park with every single outfit can never be up for debate. Her effortless style and love for experimentation is the stuff sartorial legends are made of.

While Sonam Kapoor led the way, her contemporaries followed, aping several of her looks be it the Dior sheath dresses,Vivenne Westwood creations and several of her iconic looks.

Sonam was the first to sport the pac-man print sari by Yogesh Chaudhary and the look became an instant hit overnight with several from the fraternity wearing it at various do’s. Sonam was also the first to wear the sea green colored ,deep neckline, off-shoulder Gucci dress which was later worn by another leading actress. The muse was also the one who brought Masaba’s designs on the map, with others following suit.

Said Masaba, "My saris never sold before. Now, Sonam endorses them and wears them frequently and that has changed around differently.”

While Sonam shined in a Halston Heritage lamé gown on her first Koffee with Karan episode, her contemporary later sported the very same look at a Kingfisher Calendar event in 2011.

No one wears designs like Sonam Kapoor .What sets her apart is while she wears a leading international designer just as well as she dons a budding one.

The international fashion icon has also championed Indian Gen-X designers and taken their designs to the French runaway at the Cannes Film Festival– Sonam Kapoor goes all out to promote young fashion and jewellery designers be it Anamika Khanna couture, Masaba sarees , Pernia Quereshi maxis, Shehla Khan lehengas or jewellery by Suhani Pittie which she sported at Cannes this year.

Says Sonam, "Every designer has a distinct voice. Fashion is art and it’s about collecting things. It’s about taste. You need to have that eye for real style. Nobody had heard of Ralph & Russo and Ashi Studio. After I wore them, a lot of celebs and their stylists started calling for them. It’s flattering, but also good for the designers and the fashion industry. If designers themselves weren’t good, people won’t wear them! By and by, girls became aware of these names and they got mainstream. If Masaba wasn’t Masaba, people won’t buy her designs. People became aware that she is around. Gaurang was another brand people didn’t know about. Be it Payal Pratap, Dhruv Kapoor or Shift — people slowly started warming up to these labels. I enjoy fashion and I’m always on the lookout for something new and I don’t want to look like every other girl. I had worn an Ashi Studio dress and later saw it on two or three girls who wore it in the same colour but slightly different cuts.”
