Announces the re-release of the movie Mahanagar
New Delhi, 18th April, India:
PVR Cinemas, the largest cinema exhibition company in India, announces the re- release of Satyajit Ray’s timeless classic
Mahanagar (The Big City) on 18th April, 2014, under
the PVR Director’s Rare banner. This is the 5th digitally restored
classic release under Director’s Rare banner after JAANE BHI DO YAARO,
SALAAM BOMBAY, CHASHME BUDDOOR and OM DAR B DAR. PVR
Director’s Rare will re- release the movie with English subtitles
across Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata Chennai, Bangalore, Pune and Ahmedabad.
The
film Mahanagar has been digitally restored by The RDB Organization
under the leadership of Mr. Kamal Bansal. Originally, the film was
released in 1963.
Satyajit Ray even won the Silver Bear at the 14th Berlin International
Film Festival for Mahanagar in 1964.
Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Joint Managing Director, PVR Limited said, “We feel extremely privileged to show this rich legacy of movies through Director’s Rare. It not only gives the niche audiences a chance to reminiscence the movies, but also provides rare access to them.”
The
movie isn’t only about a great cinematic experience. It also marks the
debut of the first lady of Bollywood, Mrs Jaya Bachchan.
On the re- release,
Mr. Kamal Bansal, the producer of the film said,
“I am very happy that PVR has
initiated steps to showcase these immortal classics on the big screen
for the discerning cinegoers who otherwise would be deprived of such
cinematic experience".
Mahanagar was
also recently screened at BFI London
to mark the 50th anniversary of the film.
