“Farhan has become Milkha Singh”
Bollywood has its own unique style of glorifying stories- the small everyday lessons and the legendary stuff. One of the path breaking films of the modern era, Rang De Basanti carved its mark in the hearts of the people and the real hero of the film, the director, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra made the unforgettable mark in the history of cinema. Looks like he is up to it again, for the second time in his life time, now with the biopic of the Indian Athletic legend, Milkha Singh- Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
At a special event to launch the music of the film, were present the BMB team- Rakeysh, Farhan Akhtar who play’s Milkha Singh and Sonam Kapoor along with the legend himself, Milkha Singh.
The event started off at not a very positive note, Director Rakeysh Om prakash Mehra quoted, “"Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is not a movie on a sportsman, it's a movie on the triumph of a human spirit. The purpose of the film is to celebrate human spirit. There is a Milkha Singh in each one of us; we need to bring it out.” He clarified that it was not the impressive records of the Flying Sikh, but the story of his life and the spirit that he wanted to tell the world and was very proud of how Farhan and Sonam did their roles with so much effort and perfection. He quoted, “It would be wrong to say that Farhan enacted Milkha Singh, he has become Milkha Singh by putting in all that effort”. The Flying Sikh who was present there also agreed with the director and said that he was impressed how Farhan copied every aspect of his persona, the rigorous training, the style of running, the physique, and he was very proud of it.
Sonam Kapoor who happened to see the theatrical for the first time was smitten by the results and was seen getting emotionally seeing the blood, sweat and hard work reflect on screen. “Rakeysh always puts me in a spot. I have nothing to say, I’m in tears right now,” confessed the beauty.
Milkha Singh, who was present at the event spent some good golden words expressing some memorable events and all the nostalgia. He wanted people to know his story. Singh mentioned that the two most unforgettable incidences in his life would be the murder of his parents at the age of 12 before his eyes and missing the medal at Rome Olympics for his country. He further mentioned, he hopes that after this film tells the younger generation his story, he wants to see an Indian winning the Olympics medal for India, putting it as his last desire. He maintained, he has always seen sports as a mean to promote brotherhood. And it should be kept like that, instead of calling it a war.
Farhan Akhtar looked at his best in the trailer, and maintained his witty self at the event. He divulged the details of his preparations. He felt important to have a film on the man of his persona. For all the applause that he gathered from the looks of the film, he only mentioned, “I promised Milkha sir, I’ll put in all possible hard work for the film.”
