Sriram Raghavan's Raman Raghav to be screened followed by a Master Class by the director kickstarting 'THE MASTERS'

Sriram Raghavan's Raman Raghav to be screened followed by a Master Class by the director  kickstarting 'THE MASTERS', a monthly series of exclusive learning sessions with India's finest cinematic talents organised by Drishyam Films

Mumbai, October 19, 2015: Drishyam Films is organising THE MASTERS, a monthly series of exclusive learning sessions with India's finest cinematic talents.

Kickstarting this series will be a screening of Raman Raghav directed by Sriram Raghavan followed by a master class by the director, himself. The film, at its first-ever public screening, will be introduced by filmmaker Atul Sabharwal, director (Aurangzeb, In Their Shoes), who will also be the moderator of the Q and A to be followed.

Raman Raghav is a two-part made-for-video series made by Raghavan in 1991. It is based on the successful investigations of the Stoneman murders that took place in the 1960s, drawing from official police case files. However, these films were never distributed and this will be their first theatrical outing, exclusive to early bird registrations. The event is free and open to all, based on a first-come-first serve basis. Registrations can be made at http://www.drishyamfilms.com/events/

In an effort to give the audiences and film buffs a unique and enriching cinematic experience, Drishyam Films will host screenings and interactions with noted filmmakers, cinematographers, editors and producers.

Shiladitya Bora, CEO, Drishyam Films, says "This is a one-of-a-kind initiative by us to reinvent the way master filmmakers interact with their audiences as well as aspiring filmmakers. We are sure that this will be an exciting opportunity for both to have a lively and fruitful exchange every month."

Synopsis:
The 1991 film is based on the true story of a serial killer, Raman Raghav who killed 42 people in the 60s in Mumbai. RamanRaghav was part of a made-for-video series of successful investigations drawn from police case files, with Raghubir Yadav in the titular role. The film is based on the autobiography of Ramakant Kulkarni, the former state Director General of Police who was a Deputy Commissioner of Police, CID (Crime), at the time of the killings.

After watching Talvar, Talwar double murder case gets digital momentum.

After catching the recently released film Talvar, Bengaluru based Anand Gautam, associate vice president in a food startup, was initially taken aback with disbelief that there could be another side to the Talwar double murder case.

This prompted him to dig up all relevant information on the case, including the final verdict. After spotting what he terms `some key happenings' that he couldn't digest, he started an online petition, which got 17,000 signatures in less than a week.

“I was baffled that such a thing could happen. There clearly was another side to the verdict that has been sidelined and not given due focus.I wondered how to voice my concerns. That is when I realised that an e-petition could help, because I've seen some effective ones before and even signed them. I decided to put together a concise detail of the points that I found different to help people think about it. I've also added links to more detailed stories in the petition,“ says Anand, adding that he was surprised many others thought like him and supported the petition. He continues, “There was a news report stating that the President of India has evinced interest to watch the film. I plan on adding his name to the list of people I've addressed the petition to, which, as of now, is only to the Chief Justice of India.I'm also glad that the petition has gained momentum and that celebrities like director Ken Ghosh and actress Sandhya Mridul, among others, have also voiced their support and shared the URL online.“

Apart from Anand's petition, there are two other petitions on Change.org that are direct results of watching Talvar. One of them asks for the Talwar double murder case to be reopened, while the other questions whether the CBI should clear the air about the rumours.

When asked if there were other films that have sparked off such petitions online, Preethi Herman, Country Lead, Change.org India, says, “There have been instances in the past when people started petitions based on feature films and documentaries. The website's users responded to the documentary India's Daughter and the AIB Roast with massive signature campaigns. However, in the feature film category, the Talvar petition has been one of the most viral one and is growing fast.“

We want Jio MAMI to be shorthand for excellence in cinema.
ABOUT JIO MAMI
Mumbai - the financial capital of India is also the epicentre of the Indian film industry. The city plays such a major role in production and dissemination of Indian films and television programmes that it is widely known by its acronym 'Bollywood'. In 1997, a group of film industry stalwarts headed by late Hrishikesh Mukherjee founded the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) as a not-for-profit Trust. Their main objective was to organise an annual International Film Festival which the film industry and the country could be proud of. MAMI has been organising the festival for the last 16 years and aims to foster a climate of good cinema. MAMI engages people from all walks of life across the city and country who enjoy and love good cinema. It is Mumbai’s only film festival that is entirely created and run by film professionals and a group of members from corporate India. Appreciation of good cinema, stripped off all the limiting labels of art and commercial, can only come about through exposure to the best of films the world has to offer. The Festival is the first step in that direction.
In their Mission Statement in 1997, the MAMI Board of Trustees said, "We feel it is the need of the hour to disseminate and inculcate good cinema among Indian audiences. The only way to achieve this is to celebrate cinema by hosting an International Film Festival in Mumbai, India 's film and entertainment capital. MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Image) is committed to start Mumbai's first independent international film festival organized by practicing film makers."
