Not one or two, Umesh Kulkarni’s Highway has 30 leads!



The acclaimed director of several National Award winning Marathi films, Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni is not new to the concept of multi-starrers or ensemble cast. However, with his upcoming film Highway, the noted filmmaker seems to be setting a record of sorts with casting as many as 30 actors, all in lead roles. Kulkarni shares that there is no one protagonist in Highway and that each of the characters tell a unique story of their own. “The film is a journey of each character, so there’re not any one or two particular protagonists as such. All share equal space and are multi-dimensional, like any one of us. It was also a great learning experience as well as a humbling one for us, since all these established actors had so much faith in me and Girish (actor-writer Girish Kulkarni) who has written them and done full justice to all. Even for the actors, the length just didn’t matter and that kind of faith definitely boosts my confidence as a storyteller.”

The starcast includes Huma Qureshi, Tisca Chopra, Renuka Shahane, Girish Kulkarni, Mukta Barve, Sunil Barve and Nagraj Manjule amongst others. Highway is slated to release on 24th July 2015.

Fiji gets a Bollywood connection!





Noted producer-distributor Shyam Shroff has been appointed as the Consulate General of Fiji by the Fiji Government for their new consulate in Mumbai. The new role, says Shroff, is a great honour and also comes with a lot of responsibility. “I am happy and honoured that I was chosen for this job. I definitely hope that we can help put Fiji high on the wish-list of tourism as well as for investors here,” says the senior filmmaker, adding, “It’s an island nation of 330 islands and among several of them each island is a resort. In fact many celebrities own resorts there.” Shroff also hopes that the beautiful country will gradually become a hotspot for the Indian filmmakers too. “As for Indian filmmakers, we get as much as 30 per cent rebate when shooting there, but we hope that they make some more dynamic policies that will make it more accessible technically.  A few films have been shot there, but largely it is still unexplored in Bollywood. So, that will be something I am looking forward to working on. I hope to streamline the process and help guide them with the right methods so that there is a good working relationship that can be built between us. It will work for Fiji as well as our filmmakers in a big way,” adds the filmmaker, who had also produced the National award winning film Filmistaan.

Mumbai, July 2015: How does one kill time on the set? The fitness conscious work out with their dumbbells, the tech savvy keep busy on phones, iPads and others resort to reading books. But the Coaches on the set of the newest singing reality show The Voice India produced by Endemol Shine India are deewanas of gaana bajana all day long!!!

Wooing the next musical talents from India is just not enough for Sunidhi Chauhan, Himesh Reshammiya, Shaan & Mika Singh. Between contestant performances the Coaches use this platform to create their own musical compositions and impromptu antakshari challenges.

The comradery on the set amongst the coaches is fun and tuneful, proof of that is the song dished out with full dhun and sur is ‘Chale hai 4 deewane masti me dhundne hai awaaz surili basti mein, this is The Voice you better make your choice.’ Complete with unique styles of all four power house talents, the anthem composed is now being hummed by all on the set!!

On THE VOICE, these past weeks the contestants have managed to up the tempo with their brilliant performances and received not just compliments but very unique bribes from the Coaches.

The show will now move from its Blind Auditions round to the Battle Rounds, for which the four coaches have chosen 14 singers, representing each one of them. In the ‘Battle Rounds,’ each coach pairs two of his or her team members to perform together, then chooses one to advance in the competition.

Ali Zafar flies his entire staff and family to London for a break !

Ali Zafar who manages the balancing act like a pro - has been working around the clock on his music, film and art commitments simultaneously and has managed to do so successfully thanks to his rock solid entourage.  

The multi-talented personality has now taken off to London along with his family and with his team and their families for a week long break where they will unwind, post which the entire group has planned a trek in Deosai , North Pakistan.

The actor will use this time to also do the recee for his upcoming film before he starts filming it.

Bonding over work



A perception of a film set can be a tense atmosphere where work is happening for non-stop 12 hours. But it is not in the case of Bhushan Kumar’s upcoming film Sanam Re. The films cast and crew knows how to work hard and party harder. The exhaustive film schedule has been shot in Shimla, US, London, Leh, Mumbai and Canada, but the actors certainly know how to take a chill pill in between shots.

On choosing the unusual cast which comprises of Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela, director Divya Khosla Kumar says, “I wanted actors who have not done hard core commercial cinema. In the past whenever I  interacted with Pulkit I got a hint of sadness in him. For this character I wanted that intensity. I didn’t want somebody with an image, so Pulkit really appealed to me. He was the first person I narrated the story to and he immediately came on board.”

The Yaariyan director continues, “The girl’s role in the film has a lot of layers and has various spectrums to it. Yami is a very good actress; I wasn’t looking for someone who has done a lot of work. I feel when you are new, then you know that there’s a lot of hidden potential and you can bring out a lot. That was very exciting for me as a director.”

The stills of the film are out which shows a sizzling chemistry between the lead pair of the film. Yami says, “Not many people know that Pulkit and I had worked in the earlier phase of our career. It was five years back, when I was new in Mumbai. We had worked on a music album. That was the first time we had met, and we only exchanged a ‘hello’ between us. Both of us are very big introverts; we take our own sweet little time to open up. It was a two-day shoot in Goa where we did not interact much. Before starting to work in this film, we did couple of workshops together. I must say Pulkit is a fantastic actor 
to work with. Your co-actor should be friendly, supportive, and It is very necessary to have a sense of compatibility between two actors, certain wavelength should be there, so I share such a bond with him.”

in Sanam Re we bonded over lunch and cracked jokes with each other. “It is a memorable film for me and I am looking forward for its release.”

Directed by Divya Khosla Kumar, Bhushan Kumar’s Sanam Re stars Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam, Rishi Kapoor, and Urvashi Rautela. The film is slated to release in February 2016. 
Urvashi Rautela who plays a prominent role in the film says that, “I never had so much fun on any film set as I did in Sanam Re. We bonded over lunch and cracked jokes with each other. It is a memorable film for me and I am looking forward for its release.”

Ayushmann & Bhumi’s Love Story to Open International Film Festival



July 7th, 2015: Ayushmann Khurana & Bhumi Pednekar will work their charm on audiences in distant Canada when their runaway hit, ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ will open the first Ottawa Indian Film Festival Awards (OIFFA) this July.

Slated from July 22 to July 25, OIFFA will draw NRI audiences & foreign viewers who love to savor Bollywood. Breaking away from tradition of kick starting a film festival with a big budget, multi starrer or musical, this festival has preferred to open with the much applauded performances of Ayushmann & Bhumi in this unusual love story. ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’, a low-key release, ran in theatres for over 50 days; and without minimal publicity, has become the year’s most loved super hit. Pritam takes up for Indian classical music!



Post his comeback, Pritam Chakraborty is maha-busy with some of the most-awaited films of the year including Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Dilwale, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Jagga Jasoos, Phantom. However looks like there is a serious issue that keeps haunting the ace music director. Pritam feels that there is a serious dearth of musicians who are working towards keeping the Indian classical music alive. He says, “I think it’s a serious concern as there are only few musicians left who actually know how to play the old classical instruments. It’s about time that someone should take an initiative to keep the Indian music alive. In the West, we see people working towards saving and preserving their western classical music. Like, we can go to Prague to record a Western classical piece.” Ruing the fact that the classical form of many Indian instruments are not finding takers, he adds, “Earlier, every musician had their own team, but now we do face problems when we want certain Indian classical instruments. Those who learn these crucial instruments will be most in demand soon as they would be the only ones trained enough to play them.”

People have become very anxious to know more about her, which shows that she has won a lot of hearts through just this teaser. According to the team, it seems that she is an important part in this much awaited film. 

This girl who has made the audience so anxious, has given a tough time to director Kabir and his team too. Kabir auditioned more than 5000 girls before finalizing this young lady. It was quite a task for the team as they wanted an endearing face for the role of Munni. 

Kabir and his Team were looking for fresh faces and They wanted a very pretty and Charming face for the role and indeed after auditioning  over5000 Kids  the makers have made a right decision by picking Harshali Malhotra for the role of Munni. She is Really Charming and very cute.

Harshali Malhotra, the girl playing Munni, is really charming and adorable. We never know this cute girl might also have a bright future in Bollywood.

The Salman Starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan Most anticipated film of the Year is all set to release in Eid 17 July. Kareena Kapoor is Paired Opposite Salman and the film is Directed by Kabbir Khan and Produced by SKF and Rockline Venkatesh.

फिल्म तनु वेड्स मनु की सफलता के बाद अभिनेता आर.  माधवन अपनी आगामी  फिल्म "साला  खडूस" के प्रमोशन में खाफी बिज़ी हैं और अपनी इसी बिज़ी शेडूल में से समय  निकालकर आर माधवन पहुंचे कैलिफ़ोर्निया , फेसबुक के हेडक्वाटर। 

सूत्रों का कहना है की " फेसबुक के अधिकारियो ने माधवन से संपर्क किया और उन्होंने उनसे  फेसबुक के ऑफिस विजिट करने के लिए अनुरोध किया . माधवन जब वहां पहुंचे तो यह जानकर आश्चर्यचकित रह गए  की लोग को उनकी  आगामी  फिल्म साला खडूस में उनके नए लुक को लेकर काफी उत्साह है । इस मुलाकात के दौरान माधवन  ने वहा के कर्मचारियों से बातचीत की  और फिल्म तनु वेड्स मनु से सम्बंधित अनुभव को उनसे शेयर किया. इतना ही नहीं  माधवन ने फेसबुक के ऑफिस में उनके काम को भी समझने की  कोशिश की और फिर उसके बाद उन्होंने अपने फंस के साथ कुछ समय बिताये, उन्हें ऑटोग्राफ दी, उनके साथ सेल्फ़ी खिचवाई.

Madhavan gets mobbed at Facebook HQ in California

R Madhavan, who’s riding high on the success of his last release Tanu Weds Manu Returns and busy promoting his upcoming film Saala Khadoos, took some time out to visit Facebook headquarter in San Jose, California.

A source says, “The officials at the Facebook office had approached Madhavan requesting him to visit their office in California. He was amazed to see the reaction of officials at the headquarters of the social networking site’s office who praised his look from the movie Saala Khadoos. Madhavan interacted with the employees and spoke about Tanu Weds Manu Returns and shared interesting anecdotes at the event.”


“The actor also understood their operations at Facebook office. After the interactions, the frenzied fans mobbed their favourite actor asking for autographs and selfies with him,” the source adds.

Boman’s dus ka dum!


                                                      

Boman Irani is in Zurich, where he had been invited to deliver a motivational speech. Interestingly, the event also coincides with Boman completing a decade of conducting motivational talks and workshops at the corporate level. This facet of Boman’s life may come across as a surprise for many who know him only as an actor. Yet in the corporate field, besides being known for his brilliant onscreen performances, Boman is a name synonymous with his highly inspirational talks that have often become the turning factor in the lives of many from his academic audience. And the talks, points out Boman, are not about his successful journey in Bollywood, but about his life’s ups and downs up until the point when he became a film actor at the age of 44. “My talk is an anecdotal journey which starts the day I was born to the day I signed Munnabhai MBBS,” shares Boman, adding that he tries to narrate his early failures with more glee than he does his successes. “The greatest comedy comes out of misfortune! So I am not there talking about triumph of a physical form like scaling the Himalayas, or in my case my success after becoming an actor, but about the struggle before I reached there. So people know I worked as a photographer before I turned to films, what they do not know is that I have worked as a waiter too and a struggling theatre actor that trained me to become the actor I am,” he says. Recalling how his journey as a motivational speaker began, Boman, who has been getting standing ovations for his sessions, reveals that it all started ten years ago. “Back then, I used to host corporate events, but when I would get on stage, many from the audience would often ask me questions about my journey, and it would end up becoming an interview session. So, the CEO of the company suggested that I should actually do the session as a motivational speaker! That’s when the penny dropped and I decided to conduct these workshops.” But does the corporate audience find it easy to connect to a Bollywood star? “The alienation is narrowed down in an instance when I tell them that my story is no different than theirs. What also helps is that I have never played larger than life figures in my films. My characters on screen have come out of everyday life and people find it easier to connect.” However, Boman while inspiring lives, insists that his audience not get starry-eyed about celebrity-dom and leave their cushy jobs in pursuit of dreams alone! “I always ask them to pursue their dreams but also to be realistic about their own core competence. What needs to be remembered is that it takes a lifetime of hard-work to become an overnight success!”
