The 12th Gemfields Retail Jeweller India Awards 2016 Presents the Most Spectacular Pieces in Jewellery Industry

Mumbai, July 2016: The 12th Gemfields Retail Jeweller India Awards 2016 (RJIA)- An Elite Circle of Excellence, also known as the Oscars of the jewellery industry, held its GRAND JURY MEET showcasing India’s top 250 nominated jewellery creations at Jade Ballroom, Sahara Star, Mumbai. The ‘Grand Jury meet’ is a distinctive event that showcases top rated  unique, creative and innovative designs from some of the most reputable jewellery houses across the country.

“This award is the only event that sets the benchmark in the industry with respect to designs, innovation and trendsetting. Over the past years we have seen an incredible change in the caliber of jewellery with a spurt of innovative and cutting edge designs. The Retail Jeweller India Awards not only appreciate design and creation but also celebrate them.” said Soma Bhatta, Editor, The Retail Jeweller.

After two rigorous rounds of selection, over 250 world-class precious jewellery designs were selected for 13 categories including 4 vivah and 9 non-vivah jewellery categories from all across India. The pieces displayed at the ‘Grand Jury Meet’ have been screened through a rigorous 2-tier selection process that included initial screening (for adherence to entry guidelines) by IMRB, process auditors for the awards, followed by online judging by the jury.

The Retail Jeweller India Awards is a one-of-a-kind, elite Awards ceremony in India. It is especially distinctive in its involvement of a jury of diverse, eminent personalities who are an integral part of the selection process. In attendance at the grand jury meet this year were esteemed panelists, Arpita Khan Sharma, Ananya Banerjee (Artist), Divya Kumar Khosla (Director, Co-Owner & Producer T-Series), Pearl Contractor (Interior Designer), Nawaz Mody Singhania (Fitness & Lifestyle Expert & Artist), Rouble Nagi (Artist & Muralist), Esha Deol (Actor) and Shaziya Khan (VP & Strategic Planning Director, JWT).

This year, RJIA introduced a new category- The Jewellery Buff Choice Award. Judged by bold and ambitious millennial achievers and youth icons like Nishka Lulla (Designer) Sanah Kapur (Upcoming artist) and Sanjana Patel (Owner & Founder, La Folie Patisserie), awards in this category will reflect the fancies of young and upward-mobile India.

Arpita Khan Sharma said, “I am glad to be a part of this event. It was particularly beneficial for me as I prepare to launch my own jewellery line next month. I love solitaires and so naturally favor the Diamond collection on display.”

Divya Kumar Khosla (Director, Co-Owner & Producer T-Series) said, “I really liked the event. It was very nicely arranged and glamorous too. I got to see many beautiful collections. I usually only wear rings on a day to day basis but I feel  jewellery has the power to evoke emotions. I’m immediately reminded of a necklace that my mom has given me and how it’s very close to my heart.”

Esha Deol (Actor) said, “I got to see a variety of jewellery and I feel extremely proud of the talent in the country. It was an honor to be a part of jury. I would have definitely chosen something from the vivah collection as it reminded me of the wedding jewellery I had donned four years back during my wedding.”

Rouble Nagi (Artist & Muralist) said, “I have been associated with RJIA for the past 3 years and each year they have pushed the boundary and been better than the previous one.  This year, the event was par-excellence. RJIA has set a high benchmark. For me, craftsmanship is important because I am an artist myself.  This year I really liked the Heritage collection which had some excellent, one-of-a-kind pieces that I believe are timeless.”

Nawaz Mody Singhania (Fitness & Lifestyle Expert & Artist) said, “RJIA is a very nice platform for retail jewellers and designers to showcase their designing prowess. The work on display is spectacular and shows the effort that has been put in by the participants. Its truly a delight to be judging such a wide array of creative designs.”
Ananya Banerjee (Artist) said, “I really loved the Heritage collection since jewelry, in my experience, is usually passed down from one generation to other. It’ part of a family’s legacy. The Innovative collection had some excellent statement pieces. RJIA keeps getting better and better each year and I am always excited to be part of the Jury panel.”

Shaziya Khan, VP & Strategic Planning Director, JWT said, “I liked the Couture, Heritage and the Platinum collections. I felt these really stood apart and were absolutely stunning. There were some truly beautiful designs with a rich sense of drama. It’s a wonderful event and I am happy to be part of it.”

Pearl Contractor (Interior Designer), said, "When I buy jewellery, I go for designs that have an interesting, novel architecture and also classics or timeless designs which I feel I could pass down to my daughter. I see a lot of designs that fit those descriptions here today. I especially love a pair of rose motif earrings from the Coloured Gems collection and a long, eye-catching necklace from the Heritage collection."

Sanah Kapur (Upcoming artist) said, “ It’s an absolute honour to be a part of RJIA. Saw some fantastic and beautiful designs today. It has really opened my mind towards the aesthetic charm of jewellery design. The new addition of Jury Buff’s Choice award is an excellent genre to recognize the preferences of the new young generation. The young generation likes versatile and intricate designs. It is nice to see the industry taking such strides to build a stronger connection with the youth.”

Sanjana Patel (Owner & Founder, La Folie Patisserie) said, “I especially liked the Heritage and Innovative jewellery collections and the delicate details of painstaking craftsmanship. It’s almost as if a story has been woven into some of these designs and I really enjoyed the romance of that aspect. This time they have really pushed their boundaries and it’s wonderful to see all the collections.”

Nishka Lulla (Designer), said, "I love quirky designs, but I favour delicate styles. I saw many designs here today that really reflect my personal taste and I even enjoyed trying on a few items. I love the earrings and many of the diamond cuffs were beautifully styled. It's an impressive array of designs that has been presented across these categories and it's going to be very hard to pick a favourite."

Vaishali Banerjee (MD, India, PGI) said, “I have been associated with these awards for many years and each year the collections have been amazing. Fortis Hospital, Mulund, hosts 1st ever pan-India Conference on Colorectal Cancer


~ Country’s policy makers, top oncologists and non-medical stakeholders come together to explore Epidemiology, diagnosis, Surgical Chemotherapy and Targeted Therapy in the management of Colorectal Cancer~

Mumbai, 23rdJuly 2016: Clinical experts at Fortis Hospital, Mulund, Western India’s premier healthcare provider, hosted 1st ever pan-India conference, on ‘Newer Perspectives & Clinical Updates in Colorectal Cancer’. Chaired by Dr Anil Heroor, HOD Dept. Colorectal Surgery and Dr Tejinder Singh, Oncologist, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, the conference included didactic presentations, in conjunction with lively and interactive discussions by the panel. Colorectal Surgery, Fortis Hospital Mulund, said,“Several developed Asians countries have surpassed the United States and other Western European countries in burden of CRC. Although the incidence of CRC in India has increased only marginally, it is now the 5th most common cause of cancer mortality among Indian men and women. There is also a rising incidence of CRC in young adults from diverse geographic and ethnic backgrounds – these alarming numbers need to be tackled. With the help of our panel today, we’ve managed to make headway in addressing the challenges in controlling the disease”.

On what role different players in the healthcare value-chain can play in containing the spread of the CRC, Dr Tejinder Singh, Medical Oncologist, Fortis Hospital Mulund, said, “Global Oncology societies, leading healthcare players and multinational organizations can play a vital role in increasing awareness, aggregating & analyzing data, and initiating, coordinating, and supporting efforts towards control and preventive strategies.”

18,000 - 1,00,000 cases of Colorectal Cancer (CRC) are diagnosed and treated in India every year. Incidences in India occur in age groups 10yrs younger that its western counterparts – enabling preventive intervention in many cases. Risk factors for CRC include - dietary changes, lifestyle changes, obesity and smoking. Standard treatments for CRC include surgery, Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, Cryosurgery, Radiofrequency Ablation, Minimal Invasive Surgery(Laparoscopic & Key Hole surgery) and Targeted Therapy.

Mumbai, 20th July, 2016: TISVA, designer home lighting, from the house of Usha International Limited, announces its association with the 73rd Senior National Squash Championship at Otters Club, Carter Road, Bandra (W) Mumbai. This tournament was held under the auspices of the Squash Rackets Federation of India and was slated fromTuesday, 12th July 2016 to Sunday, 17th July 2016.
A total of 440 squash players across nine categories competed in this year’s championship. This included 10-time winner Saurav Ghosal, world No. 10 defending women's champion Joshana Chinappa and world No. 19 Dipika Pallikal etc.

Mumbai, July 14, 2016: Kitchens across Indian homes are not only considered as one of the most sacred places inside a household, but also have a very strong association with mothers dishing out our favourite recipes. The campaign depicts how modern consumers are trending toward healthier eating habits but tend to overlook elements related to personal hygiene and cleaner kitchens.  Through this commercial, Sanjeev Kapoor advocates audience to adopt two simple routine to keep the kitchen germ-free: by washing hands with Dettol Handwash before cooking a meal and by cleaning dishes and utensils with Dettol Kitchen Gel that combats 100 illnesses causing germs. Dettol Liquid Handwash and Dettol Kitchen Gel have been developed to provide consumers with the best ever protection against germs and bacteria.
Conceptualized by McCann, the new campaign aims to create awareness about the importance of germ protection in kitchen among a larger audience through a clear and assertive message.

YAAP is a super specialty digital content company and this fund will enable it to up its digital content service line of design, discovery and distribution


Mumbai, 12th July 2016: Rainmaker Ventures – Co-Founded by Industrialist Sudhir Menon and Digital Marketer Atul Hegde, announced that it has invested USD 5 Mn in YAAP – a super specialty digital content company.

Rainmaker Ventures with presence in India, USA, Brazil and Singapore is an early stage start-up fund of $US50mn that was launched in December last year. Rainmaker Ventures identifies competent start-ups and not only invests seed-capital, but also, wholly mentors these establishments through the co-founders collective expertise of growing successful businesses in the past. 

YAAP, focusses on the 3 digital content service lines of Design, Discovery and Distribution. In Content design the firm looks at branded content, digital show formats, syndication, brand and visual identity, in Content discovery it looks at influencer identification, outreach and empanelment and in Content distribution it looks at programmatic content placement, alliances and channel partnerships. The focus being creating and distributing engaging content for businesses to attract, retain and deliver customer satisfaction.

YAAP has a non CEO, Partner model where digital media professionals Nikhil Bapat & Manan Kapur have joined in as Partners in Mumbai & Gurgaon respectively. The company will use majority of the funds invested by Rainmaker Ventures for acquisitions in the Branding & Visual Identity space, Automated content distribution platforms & Content creation platforms. The funds would also be utilized for YAAP’s expansion plans in the Singapore & USA market where they plan to open offices by early next year.

Sudhir Menon, Co-Founder, Rainmaker Ventures added, “YAAP is a perfect example of the nature of investments Rainmaker Ventures wants to lead. We will contribute both Capital & Mentorship to YAAP. We see YAAP become a leading player in the digital content ecosystem within the next 2 years. We have a fantastic model & the senior team in place and now will go out aggressively looking for the right acquisitions." 

In a joint statement Nikhil Bapat & Manan Kapur, Partners at YAAP said “At YAAP we are trying to build a unique model both from our offerings & the company strucutre itself. We are happy to find a partner like Rainmake Ventures that is so bullish of the Digital Content sector and are going beyond infusion of capital into the company, with active mentoring of the management team. “

Atul Hegde, Co-Founder Rainmaker Ventures will be the Chief Mentor and join the YAAP board post this investment. 

This is the second investment made by Rainmaker Ventures, an early seed-fund that was launched in December last year. The fund is already in the process of investing in compelling businesses that are impactful in nature. Expansion will also be enabled with more senior professionals from varied sectors joining the company as full time mentors.

In the sequel, a victim of his earlier killings finds Hannibal and makes him the target for revenge. The movie is a nail biting thriller which got a rating of 6.8/10 on IMDB.
