An evening of wit, words and whisky at The Glenlivet Guardians Chapter event

An evening of wit, words and whisky at The Glenlivet Guardians Chapter event

Mumbai, 22nd November 2013: Whisky is the oil of conversations and this adage was brought to life at The Glenlivet G.U.A.R.D.I.A.N.S event in Mumbai on Friday evening. Scotch enthusiasts, and some of the city’s most famous and popular faceswere regaled by the words and wit of The Glenlivet “3x20” speakers – journalist and author Naresh Fernandes, writer and dancer Tishani Doshi and writer and publisher Sirish Rao who interpreted the themes of classic, exotic and revival respectively.
Part of a worldwide initiative called The Guardians of The Glenlivet, on Thursday 100 Indian scotch aficionados were called together for a tasting and voting session in order to create the 2014 edition of The Glenlivet. These chosen Guardians then voted for their favourite out of the three blends – Classic, Exotic and Revival – createdby master distiller Alan Winchester. The Friday event at Camelot, one of Mumbai’s most treasured troves of antique and colonial furniture, was a continuation of The Guardians Chapter.
Ian Logan, international brand ambassador Chivas Brothers was pleased with the reception that he and the whisky received at tasting on Thursday. “The Guardians Chapter gives us a chance to get to know our customers a little better and give them something in return. It has been a great experience to see people faces reacting to these variants. The Classic, Revival and Exotic are variations of the original style of Glenlivet and we have tried to match them to the personalities of the key members of the Smith family. The Classic is obviously based on George Smith, the founder of the distillery. Revival has been inspired by the efforts of his son John Gordon Smith to save the brand and Exotic is for George Smith’s great grandson, Captain Bill Smith Grant, who introduced The Glenlivet to America. Today is another opportunity for us to say thank you to our guests and customers,” Logan said of the Friday event.
The evening witnessed a great turn out of guests which included the city’s literati and cognoscenti. Bollywood was well represented by actresses Aditi Rao Hydari, Amrita Puri, theatre and film actress Lillette Dubey and her daughter Ira, actress Smita Jaykar and actor Dalip Tahil. Food critic Rashmi Uday Singh and noted cricket writer and commentator Ayaz Memon and Ravi Dubey, Designer Denzil Smith and Sangita Kathiawad were also seen enjoying the evening.
The “3x20” sessions wherein each speaker was invited to speak for 20 minutes each were indeed the highlight of the evening. There are few others who know Mumbai as well as Naresh Fernandes, and his latest book Taj Mahal Foxtrot: The Story of Bombay’s Jazz Age is an attestation of that. He chose to speak about the influence of jazz and jazz musicians in Bollywood in the period between 1930s-1960s, to reflect the theme of classic. “I was surprised at how early jazz came to India and how Bombay was where Indian jazz found its voice and how Bollywood songs like Eena Meena Deeka and Mera Naam Chin-Chin Choo are examples of Indian jazz. My talk tonight echoes the theme of blends, how influences merge together to create something new,” Fernandes said.
A celebrated poet and writer Tishani Doshi didn’t have to look too far beyond her personal experiences to talk on the theme of exotic. Born to Welsh-Gujarati parents and having studied in the United States, Doshi’s take on what exotic meant to her had the audience in splits. “It was a challenge to understand what exotic meant to me but I saw it as a very interesting concept. I looked at it within my own context and I realised that for me exotic is what’s inside us,” Doshi said.
With 20 books to his name, writer and publisher and artistic director of the Indian Summer Festival, Sirish Rao’s interpretation on the theme of revival was entertaining. He chose to speak about the revival of the printing industry in Sivakasi in the 1970s through baby calendars and how it coincided with the rebuilding of India. “These baby calendars with chubby toddlers in different costumes acting out various professions were perhaps indicative of how transfer our dreams and ambitions to our children and also interestingly, how at this point, India was reviving itself as a nation,” Rao explained.

When Javed Jaffrey turned Make-Up Artist!!

When Javed Jaffrey turned Make-Up Artist!!

Ace Choreographer turned actor Javed Jaffrey who has done some memorable roles in  films like ‘Salaam Namaste’, ‘Dhamaal’ ,‘Singh Is King’ & several others will soon be seen a comic avatar once again for BR Entertainment’s ‘Mr. Joe B Carvalho’ starring Arshad Warsi & Soha Ali Khan.

Javed will be seen playing different characters in the film. We hear that for one particular character of a Maharashtrian Woman, Javed himself did his makeup of putting the prosthetic s & making it look as authentic as possible!

But what made Javed turn into a make-up artist for the film, a source close to the production team said, “We had specially flown down prosthetic s from Thailand, but due to some technical error it never reached Mumbai. Our shooting was supposed to commence the next day & the prosthetics had still not reached!! We all panicked and decided to call off the shoot for the next day, but since the booking was already done it could not be postponed!! Javed bhai himself took the situation under his control, goggled on how to do make up for prosthetic s and within no time took help from other makeup artists and started doing it. Yes! All by himself. He searched the net and did it. And to every one’s surprise it has come out perfect!

Well! So now when we see the Maharashtrian character played by Javed on-screen, we know he has put so much effort all by himself to get into the character.

Produced by Bhola Ram Malviya & Shital Malviya and Directed by Samir Tiwari
Mr. Joe B Carvalho starring Arshad Warsi, Soha Ali Khan, Jaaved Jaffrey, releases on 3rd January, 2014!!

Aamir gives in a 100 percent to everything he does. Recently the ace actor flew to Australia to learn tap dance.

The form of dance is extremely difficult and needs constant practice. So even when he was back, Aamir kept at it at home or on sets.

Azad who was often around his dad, as mom Kiran was traveling to north east used to keenly observe him.

Aamir who was playing a hands on father with Kiran away, also took him on sets. Azad seems to be a quick learner himself picked up the steps.

He would imitate his dad and the way he moved around. Aamir thoroughly enjoyed the sight when he saw Azad copying him.

Its not an easy dance form and without any training Azad seems to pick it up. Seeing his father clapping for him.. Azad only got encouraged to keep at it. Kiran had a sight to watch when she was back from her vacation.

Both the father - son duo seemed to bond over dancing in her absence.

Spokesperson of Aamir confirms the news and adds ''Azad has picked up steps of tap dancing.''

If Shoojit Sircar is looking for an inspiration for the sequel of Vicky Donor, the director should have a look at the Hollywood film Delivery Man.

If Shoojit Sircar is looking for an inspiration for the sequel of Vicky Donor, the director should have a look at the Hollywood film Delivery Man.

The film Delivery Man which stars Vince Vaughn and Colbie Smudlers in the lead role is a perfect story line for the filmmaker to create a sequel to his film Vicky Donor.

Vince Vaughn who plays the character of David Wozniak, uses the alias starbuck and donates sperms. He later realizes that he has fathered 533 children. When a large group of them petition the sperm bank to reveal his identity, David has to decide whether or not to come forward. Simultaneously, his girlfriend is deciding whether he would make a suitable father.

The complete plot hereby makes a precise fit for Shoojit Sircar to give a thought for making a sequel to his immensely appreciated Vicky Donor. The film which starred Ayushman Khurana and Yami Gautam was a successful hit with the audience. It’s merely just a coincidence that how a sequel to Vicky Donor was created.

We are sure that even both the filmmakers are completely oblivious to what each of them has created. Neither of them know about a Vicky Donor or Delivery Man. It’s however amusing to know that how a sequel of the film with such an ideal story line was created in Hollywood.

The trailer of the film Delivery Man is already out and we suggest the director to have a look at it, so we can hope a sequel to Vicky Donor coming out soon.

The trailer of Total Siyapaa was launched yesterday. The lead actor and actress of the movie Ali Zafar and Yami Gautam were present for the event.

As the movie goes, the both the actors were in with their witty mood.
