MUMBAI, 30^th September, 2014: The 5^th edition of the INK Conference will be held at The Grand Hyatt, Mumbai and aims to provide a platform to a stellar group of achievers from diverse disciplines and geographies.  This year, the Conference goes ‘Beyond Boundaries’ and is inspired by the human capacity to defy labels, limitations and status quo to launch rockets to Mars, take on global challenges, and imagine a new future. With this year’s theme, INK2014 is looking to collectively gather inspirational thoughts, stories and perspectives of those who truly think beyond boundaries.

Spanning three days from October 31st to November 2nd, the conference will witness the participation of more than 50 speakers from various fields who will deliver their thought-provoking talks over 10 sessions, each uniquely named to represent path breaking ideation.

The Conference will also be streamed live and uncut to an audience of over 400 people at the American School Of Bombay campus. INK Live 2014 will consist of collaborative workshops, direct interactions with select speakers from the Conference, engaging discussions and other fun filled learning activities with peers.

Life OK opens classes of fun, laughter and masti

What would you call a room with four mad teachers and equally mad students where the only discipline required is laughing and giggling?

The answer is “Comedy Classes”

This festive season, Life OK promises to add a smile on the face of its viewers by taking them back to the classroom; yes literally! And this class is one that no one would want to miss. The channel, known for its out of the box and disruptive appeal, is bringing together the biggest stars of comedy in its latest offering “Comedy Classes”.

Produced by Optimystix, the new show is a sitcom about an acting school called ‘Ache Din Institute’ with a crazy bunch of teachers and students.

The class consists of mad teachers such as Krushna, the flamboyant, flirtatious and artful acting coach who is a struggling actor himself and does odd jobs for a living. Bharti plays the dance instructor, whose contemporaries include Saroj Khan and Farah Khan. She has invented her own moves and grooves like Bharti-Natyam and Gambra (a mix of garba and bhangra). The ‘Kanjus’ but romantic old music master Sudesh who never misses a chance to mix two songs to create his ‘original’ compositions and the inimitable Urdu expert from Pakistan,Shakeel Siddiqui, who can speak no more than seven sentences in Urdu!

The excitement continues with the owner of the institute Selfie Mausi (Siddharth). She keeps a hawk’s eye on each and every activity in the school but freaks outevery time she hears a siren. And while Mausi is away, her younger brother Naseer (also played by Siddharth), who has just returned after spending three years in a mental asylum,takes care of the institute. The peon, Munna Dubey (Mubeen), is actually a wealthy guy who works as a peon just because he is a ‘khandani naukar’. And last but not the least, the hot receptionist of the institute keeps the fire burning with her latke-jhatke to fulfill her dream of becoming an item girl.

Censor Board gives a thumps up to Shahid - Shraddha's Haider.

If the noises and comments are to be believed which are coming out from the censor board’s office then Haider is one film to look out for.

The censor board has been raving about the lead pair of the film and is very impressed with the performances. After a long hiatus a very strong performance based film by every actor is releasing.

Those at censor who have seen the film can't seem to stop raving about the lead pair which is Shahid and Shraddha.

According to sources the censor board members were heard speaking very highly about the film. They were heard saying that they are very impressed with Shahid Kapoor’s performance in particular as they felt that he has carried off the intense performance with a lot of finesse. They seemed to agree that its one of his best performances of all times.

Haider is the name of the character played by Shahid Kapoor who returns to seek vengeance for his father’s murder; the character is very powerful and intense.

Sohum Shah seems to be having quite an eventful  year. The actor-producer very excited at juggling many hats in his production company, Recyclewala Films. 
His film Newborns, a hauntingly beautiful documentary on the female survivors of acid attacks, has been selected ay the Toronto Film Festival.

The documentary is based on the acid attack women who bravely defy the trauma and fear that will always accompany them.

The film is produced by Anand Gandhi, Sohum Shah, and Ruchi Bhimani of Recyclewala Labs in collaboration with the Stop Acid Attacks campaign. Newborns is Recyclewala’s third production after critically acclaimed films Ship Of Theseus and Gulabi Gang.

Says Sohum, "Our film, 'Newborns' has been selected for the festival. It was screened at the event to a tremendous response! 'Newborns' is a very moving film about acid attack survivors. We're so proud of Megha (Ramaswamy, Director) and her entire team!"

The actor has also been having a hectic shooting schedule. His next film,Tumbad, a cop drama with Irrfan Khan finished its first schedule in June. The unusual title of the film has already created mystery around the film. Tumbad is a dark period thriller set against the backdrop of colonial India and infused with elements of fantasy.

Sohum plays an anti-hero in the upcoming fantasy epic, and is said to have undergone an intense transformation for his character.
'We're in the final stages of finishing our next big feature film Tumbad', he shares.

​Kill Dil’s recently released title track has received a phenomenal response. People have loved the song and its edgy music a lot but they have no idea how much effort Govinda put into the song.

Since the song opens with Govinda, Ranveer Singh and Ali Zafar mouthing the beats of the song, Govinda wanted to perfect it. Hence he practiced a lot for this segment of the song.

Bismil, the climactic song, from film Haider, took months to compose, admits Vishal Bhardwaj, because it was his expression of the Mousetrap in Hamlet.

In William Shakespeare's original play, the Prince of Denmark invites his uncle and stepmother to a play he has created and from their expressions and tries to gauge what if the ghost had told him is true.

"It's storytelling through a song, narration of a situation, the kind you see in a musical." The filmmaker, who drew it from his experience of collaborating on a Broadway musical with Mira Nair, points out.

Sukwinder Singh who has sung it, says, "Bismil is like a ballet you see on the European stage. Only this one is set in reel life Kashmir." 

The filmmaker-composer was very clear that he wanted Kashmiri folk music as it’s rooted in the Valley. He hired local musicians to play the sarangi and the rabab and recorded with them in a studio there. Later, he even invited these musicians to the shoot and they joined Shahid Kapoor on stage, while picturising the song

Vishal blended Kashmiri folk music with western opera music, this time drawing from his experience of directed an English opera, A Flowering Tree. Scored by composer-conductor John Adams and based on a classic Indian folk tale written by Kannada scholar AK Ramnujan, the opera premiered in Paris in May, this year.

Vishal Bhardwaj, turned to Gulzar for the words, once the tune was composed. And his 'Kohinoor', as Sukhwinder describes him, didn't disappoint, coming up with the word Bismil which means wounded and is commonly used in the Valley.

"As a child I'd first heard the word Bismil at the dargahs I visited. It was short for Bismillah, the starting point for any successful project, and as a result it had a spiritual significance for me," says Sukhwinder.

Sukhwinder was the obvious choice for Vishal, he says, "He's the only one who can give expression to such songs. Working with him is like jamming, he gives his inputs."

Sukhwinder admits that it took him 20 minutes to get the mukhda right. He points out that Gulzar's intelligent word play initially had everyone in the studio laughing. "Once I got the hang of it, the rest of the song flowed naturally," he says.

When asked Sukhwinder, about how long it took them to complete the recording, Sukhwinder comments, "Why would we watch the clock? We were not trying to set a record, only celebrating music." For the singer, a high point was when he heard the song playing at a night club in South Africa last week.

After recording Bismil, Sukwinder was amazed by another call from Vishal saying that he wanted to record another version of the song. "When are you free?" he asked. Sukhwinder offered to come along right away, he further adds, "And there in the studio, right before my eyes, Ek Aur Bismil took shape. In 20 years, I've never heard anything like this in Indian cinema. Some people are congratulating me for singing jazz so well while others are saying I rock with country music."

"A big thanks to Vishal and Gulzar saab who in this day and age, when drums are drowning out voices and lyrics are nothing more than a jumble of senseless words, have come up with a song like Bismil, twice over.

Haider, starring Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu, and Kay Kay Menon, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, produced under the banner of UTV motion pictures, is slated for 2nd October 2014 release.
