Seattle medical resident Olivia "Liv" Moore has a promising career and has a fiancé, but when she goes to a boat party, things go horribly wrong. Liv gets turned into a zombie! In order to cope with her new appetite for brains, Liv takes a job at the King County morgue, breaks off her engagement, and completely changes her life. The only one who knows her secret is her boss Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti and he encourages her to eat the brains of murder victims who are delivered to the morgue. Whenever she eats a victim's brain, Liv inherits some of their personality traits temporarily while experiencing flashbacks from the victim’s life and even their murder. Liv uses this new ability to help the Seattle Police Department solve the crimes, passing herself off as a psychic consultant. A grand launch for Ranjan’s Wedding Pullav!

Producer Shashi Ranjan and director Binod Pradhan’s Wedding Pullav, starring Anushka Ranjan and Diganth Manchale, unveiled its trailer on 17th August at JW Marriott Hotel Mumbai Sahar in the presence of industry peers and the media. Childhood friend and reigning youth icon Alia Bhatt did the special honours of launching the trailer for debutant Anushka Ranjan.

The trailer launched amidst a lot of fanfare, apart from having the cast and crew in attendance, also witnessed a heavy turnout by several industry biggies.

Seen cheering the upcoming star Anushka were David Dhawan, Mahesh Bhatt, Jackie Shroff, Sonu Nigam, Madhur Bhandarkar, Ramesh Sippy, Ramesh Taurani and many more.

The trailer with its fresh look and outstanding music got great feedback for the confident debutante Anushka Ranjan. She came onstage to thank everyone especially her parents, "I would love to thank my parents, you know aapke bachpan me aapke mom dad kehte hai ki aapki saari khwahish puri karenge, aapko jo chahiye wo denge, I think my parents have really lived up to that thing" said Anushka.

Producers Anu and Shashi Ranjan were every bit the proud parents as they looked on Anushka basking in the compliments flowing her way.

Equally thrilled about her friend’s debut was Alia who expressed her love and best wishes while presenting the trailer, saying, “Main or Anushka or Kaanchi sath me hi badey hue hai and we used to play actors-actors together. I am very very excited, very proud, very emotional, very sentimental, very nervous and very very happy to present to you the wedding pullav with my dearest dearest friend and my elder sister Anushka Ranjan.”

After watching the trailer everyone present their congratulated Anushka and the cast. The ace filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt praising the debutant said “Anushka is a brave girl. You are here on centre stage, daring to be judged by millions of people out there, so 100% marks for daring. The results are not in our hands but I have seen this that more audacity you have the more chances you have to cover the great future. David Dhavan who is a very old and good friend of Shashi Ranjan said “First of all I want to say that Anushka you are superb, that’s your first film and you have made your father proud. Shashi is a friend of mine from last 35 years, we have studied together and I have seen him all through. And I am really proud of how he has done the film, it’s not easy to make a film today, in this time and this boy has done it.” “He still looks like a boy.” he added smiling.

Satish Kaushik who was accompanying everyone there on the stage said “This is a day for Anushka Ranjan, she is the center stage girl. She has a bright future, you have seen the trailer, and she looks good. I always used to tell Shashi whenever we used to go to his house that there is a talent hiding in your house, you know . Shashi and Anu themselves are in the mid of popular cinema and Anushka’s day is now coming. She has an Indian face, she is tall-good looking, she can look good in a sari and she can look good in any dress, and there are so many well-wishers of her who are actually giving her a lot of wishes.” He also added that she has a very bright future and wished her good luck.

Narayana Murthy recently addressed the students of St. Xavier's College, Mumbai.

The Co Founder of Infosys was addressing students advising them to choose Role Models wisely.
He listed the requirements of a role model which would help the student make the correct decision.

He emphasized that an Entrepreneur not only has to have Revolutionary ideas but should also have a youth connect in addition to undertaking initiatives for the welfare of the society.

While listing requirements, a fellow Banglorean who fits the bill perfectly came to his mind.

NR Narayana Murthy was heard regarding Bollywood's self-made Deepika Padukone as a perfect role model for today's youth.
Deepika suffices the needs of a perfect role model as listed by Mr. Murthy, which includes being a revolutionary, legal, ethical and socially responsible.
"I am very, very proud of Deepika," he was heard saying, "She is in a glamorous world and she has brought so much joy to literally a billion Indians" he added further.

Amitabh Bachchan & Jaya Bachchan onscreen together after 14 years with R.Balki’s Ki and Ka!

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan and wife Jaya Bachchan recently shot for 10 hours for R.Balki’s Ki And Ka. While there has been speculation on their special appearance in the film, official sources reveal that they will be playing themselves and have shot for a comedy sequence which is an integral scene in the movie.

Since they play themselves in the film, director Balki thought that it would be best to incorporate outfits from their actual wardrobe. While Mr.Bachchan will be sporting a simple kurta pyjama look, Jaya Bachchan dons an elegant saree, one of her personal favorites.

R.Balki who has always professed his deep admiration for the superstar has always said that Mr.Bachchan has been a lucky mascot to him and hopes to involve him in every film he makes.

Ki and Ka starring Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan is no different.Amitabh Bachchan will make a special guest appearance with wife Jaya Bachchan in the film 14 years since Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham,when they last shared screen space together.

Says a source, “ Since Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan play themselves in the film, a suite in a suburban luxury hotel was converted into the living room of Jalsa, their Juhu Bungalow. Pictures of Abhishek and Shweta Bachchan find themselves on prominent shelves in the room, along with pictures of Amitabh Bachchan from his younger days ,as well as a portrait of their grandfather Harivanshrai Bachchan. The entire living room in Jalsa was replicated ,along with the furniture and décor. The scene will be a highlight in the film and will treat audiences to their lovable chemistry .The two were even spotted helping eachother out in rehearsing their lines prior to the shoot and in between shots.”

R.Balki’s Ki and Ka stars Arjun Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swaroop Sampat among others. Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan make a special appearance in the film.The film is about two people with contrasting ideologies, taking audiences through their interesting journey.While Arjun is a progressive house husband who lovingly supports his wife's ambitions, Kareena, on the other hand, is a super ambitious career woman.

Smita Thackeray's Birthday Party

It was a double celebration for the ravishing political bahu, Smita Thackeray as she raised a toast for her birthday and for her son Rahul Thackeray who is soon going to have his directorial debut with the biopic ‘Saheb’.  Keeping it a private affair, this birthday celebration was attended by family members and close friends like :

Lara Dutta’s look in Singh is Bliing!!

She plays a translator in the film

Lara Dutta who is returning to the silver screen with Singh is Bliing will be seen in a quirky and geeky avatar. Her character Emily, creates trouble in Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson’s love story in the film.

Lara says, “I play Emily aka Imli, a Goan, who is hired by Singh (Akshay Kumar) and his friends to be a translator for them to be able to communicate with Sara (Amy). It’s funny but also quirky. I had to make an effort to look geeky and frumpy. My look was decided upon between the director, the producer and me and was executed by the film’s stylist Arun.”

Producer Ashwini Yardi says, “Lara plays a key role in Akshay’s and Amy’s love story. She’s responsible for the chaos in their lives.”

Everybody knows how director Neeraj Pandey (A Wednesday, Special 26, BABY) is supremely particular when it comes to casting for the characters in his films. 

The director, who is a perfectionist, has been auditioning many - for months now - for the role of Sakshi in the official biopic on the most successful Indian cricket captain. 

Sources confirm that Neeraj has chosen the young and talented Kiara Advani to play Sakshi in the film MS Dhoni - The Untold Story. Sushant Singh Rajput plays the title role of Dhoni.

A source close to the project confirms, "It was quite challenging to find the right casting for Sakshi as people at large have seen enough of Sakshi and the comparison is very obvious. The director always wanted a young actor in the film - not someone who has done many roles and audiences have seen enough of her to form an impression or an opinion about her. He basically wanted an actor without a baggage. Kiara's audition was just amazing. Her chemistry with Sushant during the auditions and rehearsals made her land the role. Kiara has been rehearsing non stop to look and act the part."

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is set to go on the floors by the end of this month.

Smita Thackeray’s son Rahul Thackeray to direct biopic on Bala Saheb Thackeray titled ‘Saheb’

Mumbai, 18th August 2015: The political bahu and owner of a flourishing film and TV production house, Smita Thackeray along with her son Rahul Thackeray will be giving a special tribute to the charismatic hero and an integral part of their family, Shri Balasaheb Thackeray by producing his biopic titled ‘Saheb’.

  

The strong social activist Smita Thackeray will be producing the film along with Sandeep Sing, , Omang Kumar and Rashid Saeed, creative director Sandeep Singh and will be directed by Rahul Thackeray.‘Saheb’ will be going on floors in mid-2016 and the makers want to release it on Balasaheb Thackeray’s birth anniversary week on January 20th 2017. The leading cast of the movie is yet to be decided.

Confirming the news, Producer and Creative Director of ‘Saheb’ Sandeep Singh said “Yes it’s confirmed; we are looking forward to make a biopic on the great Shri Balasaheb Thackeray.   Being a Bihari, I feel extremely proud to produce this film along with my partners and be the creative director on this biggest biopic ever. He was worshiped like God by all Maharastrians and this will be a tribute to him. He being the most powerful man, making a biopic on him would be incredibly challenging and exciting at the same time”

Sandeep Singh who has co-produced Rowdy Rathore, Ram Leela, Mary Kom, television mega serial Saraswatichandra and now producing a biopic ‘Aligarh’ directed by Hansal Mehta and the much talked biopic ‘Sarabjit’  is all set to produce another biopic ‘Saheb’

Kangana Ranaut inspires Payal’s tattoo

We have seen Kangana Ranaut sport tattoos in real life. This time around, we are also seeing the actress sport a tattoo on screen for her next film, Katti Batti.

Kangana’s character in the film sports a Bijli tattoo which has caught the attention of many. Sources reveal that the tattoo for her character- 'Payal', has been inspired by the actress herself.

The tattoo is symbolic to not just her character in the film but also to Kangana Ranaut in reality.

The tattoo had to be in sync with her character traits and this one was just appropriate. Her character in the film is someone who is very happy go lucky, Bohemian, chic and fun. This is exactly how Kangana is in reality as well.

After some discussion, the Bijli tattoo was finalized and everyone was very happy with the decision.

Spokesperson confirms and adds, "The tattoo designer took inspiration from Kangana to design the tattoo for her character in the film."

Vivek Oberoi to make documentary on the Girl Child !

 

Actor and philanthropist Vivek Oberoi in the year 2009 started Project Devi, that worked towards empowering women and protecting their rights. The actor also did extensive work under "The Banyan" that helped women suffering from mental illnesses. 

 

Under his personal foundation, the Yashodhara Oberoi Foundation ,Vivek Oberoi over the years has done tireless work for "the girl child", going out to his way to travel to remote corners of the country and personally interact with girls and women who have faced challenging times and emerged stronger.

 

The actor now wants to share his experiences gathered over the years, with viewers and encourage them to join him in his endeavor, apart from shedding light on the problems underprivileged girls in India face. 

 

Vivek has decided to make and finance a documentary on the Girl Child which will include visuals, videos, statistics and other data and information that he and his team have collected through all their work. The documentary will cover topics like child marriage, rape , eve teasing ,education ,gender discrimination and women’s standing in patriarchal society.

This has been a project Vivek has long wanted to do and has finally decided to activate it. He will start work on it post the shoot of Great Grand Masti. He is also involving NGO’s fighting for a similar cause for their inputs and feedback.The documentary will release online on all major platforms and video streaming sights. He hopes by releasing it on the social media platform that people from all corners of the country will have easy access to it.

2015 INDIAN FILM FESTIVAL OF MELBOURNE AWARDS & WESTERN UNION SHORT FILM COMPETITION - WINNERS ANNOUNCED

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne announced the winners of the second IFFM Awardsat astar-studded, red-carpetgala event at Melbourne’s National Gallery of Victoria on Saturday 15August, Indian Independence Day.

Pre-eminent Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, who made his Hollywood debut as the quiz-show host in Slumdog Millionaire,was recognised with the IFFM Excellence in Cinema Award, following Amitabh Bachchan who was presented with the inaugural award in 2014.

Quirky father-daughter comedy Piku, directed by Shoojit Sircar, dominated the evening, scooping top prizes forthe categories of Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor, which Piku’s Irrfan Khan shared with Shahid Kapoor for Haider.The lovable Hindi film, which follows the strained but loving relationship between a father and daughter, stars Khan alongside winning performances from Indian superstars Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan. The film screens at IFFM on August 16.

Commenting on the Best Actor Award IFFM judge Jill Bilcocksaid:

“Irrfan Khan as Rana in Piku gave a wonderful restrained performance with great attention to detail and excellent comic timing. Irrfan is a master of the "slow burn”, creating plenty of sexual tension and a character that owns the screen.”

The heart-warming drama KaakaMuttai(Crows Eggs), directed by M. Manikandan, won Best Indie Film, adding to its many honours from the National Film Awards, the Indian Film Festival Los Angeles and the Toronto International Film Festival. Kaaka Muttai follows two slum children whose all-encompassing desire is to taste a pizza.There is an encore IFFM screening August 25.

Bhumi Pednekar won Best Actress for her role in Dum LagakeHaisha, which made its Australian premiere at IFFM and screens again August 25.

Jury member Andrew Anastiosiassaid:

“Bhumi should be applauded for the unaffected earthiness, courage and natural humour she brings to the role of “Sandhya”. Her portrayal of an unconventional heroine who is confident and comfortable in her own skin, challenges the stereotypical images of the Hindi movie star and is sure to have a ripple effect throughout the industry. It is hard to believe that this is her debut. The honesty and joy in her performance made her my absolute favourite, and has won many hearts with audiences.”

The Telstra People's Choice Prize for the Indian film with the highest Australian box office takings in 2014 went to PKdirected by RajkumarHirani which screens on August 18.

“Festival director MituBhowmick-Lange said “These awards reflect the extraordinary quality and diversity in today’s vibrant Indian film industry. Equality is this year’s festival theme and so many of these films share messages of hope and strength of the human spirit times of difficulty. The awards were judged by a panel of Indian and Australian film industry figures including Simi Garewal, Rajeev Masand, Andrew Anastasios, Jill Bilcock, and Nikhil Advani.

Also announced were the winners of the Western Union Short Film Competition. The Australian winner is Mark Hellinger for Road to Glory, and the Indian winner is All India Bakchod for Rape: It’s Your Fault.

Rape: It’s Your Fault is a political satire by the edgy Indian comedy collective All India Bakchod.The pseudo-educational video intelligently explores rape culture and victim blaming in India, facetiously listing the reasons often given to women why rape is their fault – “Women who wear skirts are the leading cause of rape” – and addressing the systemic institutional problems that face women who seek justice, sending a sharp and powerful message through comedy.

Road to Gloryis a documentary short which captures the Williamstown Seagulls FIDA team on the road to the 2014 Grand Final, competing in an Australian rules league for people with an intellectual disability.

Attendees at the awards were entertained by two very special fashion shows from India’s leading fashion designers, AnamikaKhanna and Guarav Gupta, in the Great Hall of the National Gallery of Victoria, and a third showcasing exceptional Melbourne designers. All the designers donated some of their garments with proceeds going to The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne takes place from Friday 14 August – Thursday 27 August and is the southern hemisphere’s greatest celebration of Indian cinema.
