Shah Rukh - Naam hi kaafi hai

Shah Rukh - Naam hi kaafi hai

Yeh Hai Bakrapur written and directed by National Award winner Janaki Vishwanathan , has received over 8 lakh hits on the internet since the announcement that the lead character in the movie is Shah Rukh the goat. The tagline of the trailer ‘Yahan Shah Rukh mein rab dikhta hai’ is the new gossip over the social websites.

On this Janaki says, ”Last year, I read a newspaper article about a particular goat and that triggered the idea of making a film on goat. During research of the movie in small towns, I’ve learnt that pets are named after bollywood stars. I was surprised to learn that goats are called Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir. There was also a goat named Saifeena, which was sold for Rs 6 lakh during Bakri Eid last year.”

“It’s a 90 minute short film and is a socio-political satire. The movie also stars Anshuman Jha who was seen in Love Sex Aur Dhoka. The goat is the pet of a little boy who’s a huge fan of Shah Rukh Khan. The name Shah Rukh means the face of the emperor. So in a way, it’s divine and that’s exactly what the goat’s character in the film depicts” says  Janaki about the movie’s plot.

“I don’t think Shah Rukh Khan would get offended by this. We would be more than happy if he agrees to see the film. we have approached him to watch  the film as I feel he’ll connect with the content. He’s got a great sense of humour.” says Janaki on asking if she is worried that Shah Rukh will be offended by her film.

Yeh hai Bakrapur is set to release on 25th April 2014.

FICCI FRAMES 2014 gets underway

Self regulation best option for TV ratings: I&B Ministry

Mumbai, 12 March 2014: The government has recently notified TRP guidelines that cover a detailed procedure for registration of rating agencies, eligibility norms, terms and conditions of registration, cross holdings, methodology for audience measurement, complaint redressal mechanisms, sale and use of the audit, disclosure, reporting requirements and action against non compliance. This was disclosed by Mr Bimal Julka, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, at the opening of the 15th FICCI FRAMES Conference here today.

FRAMES is a three day global convention organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). It covers the entire gamut of media and entertainment like films, broadcast, digital entertainment, animation, gaming, and visual effects. About 200 Indian and overseas speakers will address nearly 2000 Indian and 800 foreign delegates from the media and entertainment industry. This year marks the 15th anniversary of FICCI FRAMES and assumes importance since it comes just before the general elections.

In his opening remarks, Mr Uday Shankar, Chairman, FICCI Media and Entertainment Committee and CEO, Star India, complimented the FICCI team for putting up such a spectacular show. He expressed happiness that the media had recorded a growth of 12 percent last year, amidst an environment of gloom and doom. That is a testimony to the tenacity of the media, he said.

Mr Shankar also described media and entertainment as key to the inspiration of one billion Indians, and hence felt that an event like this was extremely important, especially since it took place at a time leading to the elections. The industry had run through its course of exploiting the first set of economic reforms in 1991. It now faces a complex set of economic and social choices, including the role of the government and private sector. He was of the view that no relationship is more important than that between the government and the media, since they are conditioned to be adversarial. Hence these weeks before the elections call for a rethink of their respective roles.

“We are of the firm view that self regulation by the industry is the best option as far as TV ratings are concerned,” said Mr Bimal Julka. Delivering the vision statement at the inaugural session, he announced that the Indian Broadcasting Foundation had set up a Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC)) High Table and was going ahead with appointing a rating agency. He urged BARC to speed up the process so that ratings may be generated without delay. He described the issue of TRPs as critical for the broadcasting sector and said it had been under discussion for the last few months.

Regarding FM radio, Mr Julka said that the ministry’s policies had ensured vibrant growth in the sector, with 245 FM channels launched in 86 cities since 2005. The third phase of FM auction for 839 channels is currently underway. He also discussed the challenges facing the sector, including complete digitisation throughout the country, rationalisation of taxes, control of vertical monopoly and cross holdings and content monitoring. Mr Julka also announced that the National Museum of Indian Cinema in Mumbai is ready for inauguration and the first phase will be dedicated to the nation very shortly.

Mr Ajit Pai, Commissioner, FCC, USA, was the guest of honour at the event. He began on a personal note, describing how his parents migrated to the US in 1971 and taught him the value of hard work and sacrifice. As a child growing up in the US, he found it difficult to communicate with his grandparents back home because there were no phones, no email and no YouTube. Today’s world is unrecognisable from those days, he observed.  Thanks to technology, families that are separated geographically feel a lot closer today than they did in the ‘70s.

Mr Pai was clearly of the view that regulators must not impose their preferences on others. It was the role of the marketplace to sort success from failure. Describing the phenomenal progress made by the entertainment and media industry in America, he said that this progress happened not by government fiats, but because the private sector took risks to innovate, spending over one trillion dollars on upgrading and deploying core broadcast infrastructure. The US Government created the regulatory framework for the industry to take these risks. That is the story behind their success.

FICCI Frames always has a partner country and a partner state. This year, the partner country is Australia, and the partner state Karnataka. Mr Patrick Suckling, Australian High Commissioner to India, delivered the Partner Country Keynote Address.  He felt that Australia’s film credentials are not as well recognised in India as they should be. His country has won about 50 Oscars, out of which three have been this year. The industry is adept in both front and back end cinema quality. There are four major production houses, with modern infrastructure, technological expertise, and post production, animation and music facilities. Australia is famous for its locations, and he called upon Bollywood producers to consider shooting in Australia. He also announce that Australia’s interests go beyond film making to education, and can make a good contribution to Indian film institutes. However, there still remain areas of mistrust and lack of understanding between the two countries, and these must be addressed through interaction.

Karnataka, the partner state, was represented by Mr Srivatsa Krishna, Secretary, Department of IT, BT & ST, Government of Karnataka. In a dramatic multimedia presentation, he showcased the state-of-the-art  facilities available in Karnataka, and revealed that many famous Hollywood film sets were actually created at Whitefield in Bengaluru. He invited Indian and international film makers to take advantage of the facilities offered by his state.

Mr Harshvardhan Neotia, Vice President, FICCI, welcomed the gathering to the three-day event and Mr Ramesh Sippi, Co-Chairman, FICCI Media and Entertainment Committee, delivered the vote of thanks. The session also saw the release of the FICCI-KPMG Report and the FICCI Amarchand Lawbook. The entire session was anchored by Dr A Didar Singh, Secretary General, FICCI.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 TO COME A DAY EARLIER ON MAY 1ST

Mumbai, March 12 2014… Indian audiences are in for a treat as this year’s most awaited blockbuster The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is all set to release on Thursday, May 1st 2014 - a day earlier than scheduled. It will release in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu and in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D.

Kercy Daruwala, Managing Director – Sony Pictures India commented, “The release date will take advantage of the fact that most states have a public holiday on May 1st. As it is, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 releases during the opportune school and college vacation period which is ideal for our audience.”

The Spider-Man franchise has garnered a larger box office than any other Hollywood franchise in India. Back in 2012, The Amazing Spider-Man had the widest release of any other Hollywood film in the country and still holds the record for the biggest opening weekend at Rs. 34 cr. The franchise has grown release-on-release with the lifetime box office of The Amazing Spider-Man, which was at Rs. 90.1 cr, being over three times of what it was for the first Spider-Man film back in 2002.

Mr. Daruwala added, “Exciting marketing promotions are being planned for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, including one which celebrates his status as official ambassador of WWF’s Earth Hour on March 29th.”

The most successful franchise in the history of Columbia Pictures, Spider-Man is embraced all over the world. The four Spider-Man films to date have taken in over $3.2 billion worldwide. Spider-Man is licensed to Sony by Marvel Entertainment.

ABOUT THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 ( www.facebook.com/spidermanmovieindia )

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield).  For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone).  But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city.  With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.
Sony Pictures India is the #1 Hollywood studio in India with four out of the top ten Hollywood films of all time in India including blockbusters like 2012, The Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man 3 and Skyfall.

Salman Khan was very keen to shoot the song with old radio sets as props

Salman Khan, who is presenting Atul Agnihotri’s upcoming next film, O Teri, starring Pulkit Samrat and Bilal Amrohi, recently shot a promotional song for the film.

Salman, who has been constantly connected with the making of the entire film from the beginning, came up with an idea for the special song that he was shooting.

The star Khan was very keen to shoot the song with old radio sets as props as they were just appropriate and matching the whole look on the sets.

So, the production team landed up buying all the old radio sets available in Chor Bazaar overnight.

The idea came just before shooting the song and so the production team managed to get everything arranged for the song in an overnight visit to the chor bazaar.

The sellers there were more than happy to help the production team with the radio sets when they got to know it was for Salman Khan’s shoot.

O Teri talks about two boys, Prantabh Pratap (PP) & Anand Ishvaram Devadutt Subramanium (AIDS, in short) who are ordinary journalists doing ordinary stories
facing ordinary pressures of life when a quirky turn of events changes their lives.

The film is slated to release on 28th March 2014

When contacted Atul Agnihotri, he said, “Yes, it was Salman bhai’s idea and our team managed to get most of the old radio sets for the shoot.” He laughed and added, “Don’t know if there are any more left there.”

Randeep Hooda- Shuffling National Equestrian Championship with Kick

Randeep Hooda- Shuffling National Equestrian Championship with Kick

Randeep Hooda is currently in Delhi shooting for Sajid Nadiadwala's directorial debut Kick and at the same time he is also practicing for National Equestrian Championship.

Randeep has participated in two categories of the competition- Show Jumping and Dressage. His horses were taken for the competition in Delhi for the National Equestrian Championship on Thursday from the race course in Mumbai in a truck. Excited about the competition, Randeep says, "I wouldn't mind doing a film revolving around horses but I wouldn't dilute my equity just sitting on one."

While in Delhi Randeep trained with horses from 4 am, followed by another session after pack-up. He says, "I won't be sleeping much for the next 10-12 days. I've told Sajid bhai that I'll be taking part in the Nationals and he has no objections."

"With all the shoots and promotions, I haven't got much practise but I'm sure I won't embarrass myself," asserts Randeep who has bagged national honours in dressage, adding that the idea is not to just bag more medals though he's hoping for some. "When my best horse, who has since retired from competition, was in peak form, I had no money to take part in the competition. Now that I have some money, I want to participate. There is no life without sport and no sport without competition," says Randeep, who has
been training with his horses for seven years.

Will Kick be as big a kick? "It's a different film in terms of genre and mounting with a superstar. The film revolves around Salman (Khan), Jacqueline (Fernandez) and me. It will undoubtedly get a bigger audience than Highway. Yes, I'm pretty kicked," he says.

When Big B arrived on Bhoothnath Returns sets on an automated scooter!!

When Big B arrived on Bhoothnath Returns sets on an automated scooter!!

Yes yes you heard it right. Mr Bachchan aka the global superstar and movie icon turned up at 'Bhoothnath Returns' sets on a …..wait for it….automated scooter!!!

For the hugely anticipated sequel, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Bhushan Kumar and Abhay Chopra, filming was going on at a real location in Versova, Mumbai. As it happened there was tremendous construction work going on due to which many of the roads were blocked and Big B’s vanity van and his car couldn’t access the area! It was a really long walk from the parking area to the sets, trust Big B to come up with a most fun and innovative solution without troubling the crew!

We hear that he would travel for 2-3 days to the location on a personal fun automated scooter! Seems like the child in him was revived as he would excitedly travel all over the set in the scooter much to the amusement of the crew and had a blast!

Says Director Nitesh Tiwari, “There was a lot of digging and construction work going on at the Versova location ad it was quite a long walk from the parking to the sets. Rather than troubling us or delaying time, Mr Bachchan came onto the sets on a unique scooter and would zip around in it the whole day! He seems to be enjoying himself thoroughly and it was quite a nice sight for us too’ he smiles

Well he is not THE movie icon and superstar for nothing!

Bhoothnath Returns is an entertaining tale of good against evil, weak against powerful, past against future directed by Nitesh Tiwari releasing on 11th April.
